D-esign I-deate C-apture E-dit - DESIGN your event content plan before the event. Factor the RSVP list, influencer partners, and key marketing messaging before the start time. This will inform the topic selection and shot planning during the event. The more homework you do upfront, the easier it is to hit a home run at the event. IDEATE on content topics and thoroughly prepare. Be intentional and formulate a concrete shooting plan. This can include video topics, storyboarding, branding, and questions for the participants. You want to focus primarily on execution during the event, so it’s key to get the preparation in order. CAPTURE your event in a versatile manner. Now that you have your content plan, you can focus on 1) DOCUMENTING the event and 2) CREATING original content at the event. You want a fair balance of both so you can produce versatile videos (short form, interviews, hype video, recap, long form) with original b-roll. EDIT your raw assets into usable content. Think carefully about how you want to distribute the content. Fast-paced short form is great for organic social while more cinematic shots can serve as promotional reel for future events and sponsor activation. DO NOT post anything raw. Just want to give a shoutout to OpenVC. It's been a great resource, I've used it off and on for a few months, and today decided to get the yearly pass. It allows you to search VCs and submit your deck, with tracking and analytics. So you can see every slide a VC looks at on your deck, and when they back out. Helps for deck fine-tuning. It also allows VC's to tell you why they passed if they did. I've also gotten some followup meetings on ZOOM. It's just a great resource that doesn't cost thousands of dollars a month like most others. Also, had some tech support issues as well (my fault) and they were handled within half an hour. Thanks Stephane Nasser for such a great tool for entrepreneuers.

Thanks Chinenye. I couldn't agree with you more. However while we work on this, we also have to be mindful of the fact that bias isn't just the problem in this data rather a combination of poor economy and bias. Of all these regions mentioned, Africa is the least performing market. therefore Davidson, naturally you would expect investors to do less there. They are not charity organisations but a venture set up for outsized returns.Therefore the major issue we should be discussing is, which sectors are receiving this funding in Africa? Are the investments coming to sectors that will lift the other sectors up fundamentally or to sectors that will window dress the issues? or Worst still the ones that will reap-off on the people and distort rather than disrupt the system. (eg Nigeria POS fintech and the real banking system. a discussion for another day). Until strong investments are made in the technology sectors powering manufacturing strong job growth in Africa be it REAL B2B eCommerce not repeating what is already being done, or B2C eCommerce that is truly efficient and cost effective. Equally important is the improvement in the purchasing power of the consumers via credit card system. in as much as Sub-Sahara Africa lacks good credit system that captures the average citizens and residents, B2C will continue to struggle. in as much as our logistics investments are predominantly in the last mile delivery rather than efficient crosborder logistics, both B2B abd B2C eCommerce will struggle to scale efficiently and profitability. So, it's time for the investors to do away with the low hanging fruits and start tackling the real issues that will empower and propel Africa economies. That's where the main bias lies.

Meta Moves Away from Fact-Checkers to Community Notes: A Zuckerberg Pivot The news: Meta is ditching third-party fact-checkers and adopting Community Notes, a model pioneered by X (formerly Twitter). They're also easing content moderation rules to allow for more freewheeling discourse. • Community-driven corrections: Inspired by Wikipedia, Community Notes lets users flag, review, and validate corrections collaboratively. It's open-source and hard to game. • Timing matters: Jason says Zuck’s moves correlate with political tides. In 2016, fact-checking rose post-election turmoil. Now, ahead of 2024 and potential Trump influence, Meta shifts again. • Motivation or convenience? Jason's take: Zuckerberg follows popular sentiment to win, not altruism. The C2M model represents what I think is the single largest white space opportunity in the creator economy ShopMy.us, LTK, Shopify Collabs etc have put commerce power in creators' hands, but they're constrained by traditional inventory / wholesale models…. Looking out into Morse Micro's future, founder and CEO Michael De Nil sees an IPO. “We’re looking to build real products, get some real revenue and then take the company public from there,” de Nil said of Morse Micro, which raised a huge $170 million round in 2022. The company makes WiFi chips that it says can beam signals 10 times further than is standard, useful for factories, offices and (big) homes that use smart cameras and other internet-connected devices. It has spent most of its eight years of operation in R&D mode, last year releasing its first product to market. As it prepares to announce a second-generation chip, Morse Micro’s focus is, as de Nil said, racking up some “real revenue.” To do that it’s trying to get its designs integrated into smart devices of all kinds – earlier this year it established an office in Taiwan where it can wheel and deal with the likes of Foxconn to achieve that end. Though de Nil said it was too early to talk about what exchange he would want to list on, an IPO would make Morse Micro the first IPO by a highly-valued Australian deep tech startup. That would be welcome inspiration for Australian startups toiling with often limited funds on the cutting edge of science and engineering. Brands are wondering if they should turn off paid media + social media due to the California wildfire… but I actually don’t think you need to take that action, and I don’t think keeping social going makes your brand heartless. I’m a born & raised Californian who lived through far too many earthquakes & fires. This one is gonna be particularly devastating—I’ve had personal friends displaced & lose friends this time around, a first for me. But honestly, I believe we’re entering a time where there really are very few events that truly warrant a pause on social now. Historically, I’ve been on the hyper cautious side. I was a Strategy Director at R/GA working on Verizon during COVID and George Floyd’s murder, constantly being asked when it is and isn’t okay to post content. I’ve always been the “it’s better safe than sorry” guy when it comes to this stuff, and my answer was always “there’s never a reason to not just wait til tomorrow or the next day.” And with those two moments, I’d take the same approach I did then. But as the world’s returned to normal, things have changed. I monitored social closely after the Trump assassination attempt, and during the debates, and during the election. My advice was brands should steer clear and not push any campaigns during the window. But as I watched? I didn’t sense any bit of negativity towards the brands that kept on truckin’. I’m not saying to keep your brand on always no matter what’s happening in the world. Nationwide and global events happen, and are worth shutting things down for. The COVID shutdown and George Floyd murders I mentioned earlier? I’d still tell every brand to turn everything off for a few days if they happened again. But a regional event, even one as devastating as this, probably doesn’t warrant turning off your brand social. Your brand sells to the entire country, and the entire world. One state going through pain (even a state I love and was raised in) is ultimately a fraction of your audience, and I don’t believe anyone would actually fault your brand for posting. 🔥 Hot Ones Has Been Sold for $82.5 Million Buzzfeed just announced that they have sold Hot Ones to a group of investors including Chris Schonberger (the original founder of the series), Sean Evans (the host of the series), Crooked Media, YouTubers Rhett and Link's Mythical Entertainment and Soros Fund Management. Hot Ones is part of the First We Feast media brand, which hosts several food-related celebrity shows on their YouTube channel, like Pro Moves, Snacked, and The Burger Show. Hot Ones is the most successful digitally native "talk show" on YouTube, with the unique format of interviewing celebrities while they eat progressively spicier hot wings. What started as a funny concept ten years ago has now become a major stop on press tours, with actors like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman going onto the show to promote Deadpool & Wolverine or people like Shaq creating legendary memes from their appearances. And that's an underrated part of Hot Ones' creative genius -- the fact that almost every episode creates memes and moments that people want to share on social media. In a press release announcing the sale, Chris Schonberger specifically mentioned the company's intention to expand into "new platforms, live events, and talent acquisition." The straightforward playbook would be for Hot Ones to build itself up as a broader media platform, with several shows under its brand and a roster of talent, all of which they can monetize in several different ways. First We Feast is the modern, digitally native version of the Food Network.
