Joshua has once again delivered amazing value to the TPM Community in the form of his 2nd edition Technical Program Management Handbook. (He also launched the amazing cross-industry-cutting TPM Summit event with a few other equally awesome co-leads: Josie Gillan, Zhanat Abylkassym, plus Josh's wife as an honorary TPM.) But let's look back at the book. Here's a glimpse of how his book delivers the WOW factor: First off, it is very comprehensive: from career paths to hard skills to soft skills and beyond. It truly is a handbook, ie a guide to doing the job really well. My full-length review will focus on the things that make his book unique among other TPM books: 1️⃣ A pragmatic deconstruction of Emotional Intelligence as a TPM 2️⃣ A section dedicated to TPM's Driving Clarity. This really sets an amazing context for the book. 3️⃣ System Design and Architecture. He really puts the T in TPM. 4️⃣ Using Generative AI as a TPM. Understanding this will help keep your skills relevant. TLDR: Should you get this book? Only if you're a TPM wanting to get better at TPM-ing. So...yes. Leaders, much of your role involves leading or implementing change, and that can be challenging. Fellow in-house taxonomists, ontologists, metadata managers, and semantic wizards: what is the name of the team or business unit that you work within? I have the good fortune of getting to rename the "Content Standards" program I lead at Kaiser Permanente IT. My team has determined that the name is too vague to convey the core activities of the program, and leads to confusion with the cross-functional teams we collaborate with. I'm looking for a clear name that will resonate with stakeholders within my org. So I've got a very classic taxonomist question: What to call the program? 🤔 For some context... What my program is responsible for: - Defining and governing standards for metadata, structured data, taxonomy, and ontology for classifying/structuring digital content - Implementing processes and platforms to good metadata hygiene - Assessment and remediation of content metadata What my program doesn't cover: - Writing or editorial style guides - Content design - Content strategy - Site maps or navigational structure - Data governance Any ideas are most welcome!

Thanksgiving has me thinking about how gratitude and business agility go hand in hand—kind of like turkey and cranberry sauce. Let’s face it: the world is moving faster than your favorite streaming service dropping new content. Markets shift, technology evolves, and challenges seem to show up uninvited—like your second cousin with strong opinions about the election. Through it all, one trait stands out as a secret weapon: adapting with gratitude. Here’s why thankfulness is the unsung hero of agility: • It supercharges teams. When you take the time to say, “Hey, nice work,” people feel valued. Valued people collaborate better, innovate faster, and are less likely to mute you on Zoom. • It builds resilience. Gratitude shifts the focus from “what’s broken” to “what’s possible.” Suddenly, challenges feel less like dead ends and more like detours with a scenic view (or at least better snacks). • It creates trust. Whether it’s customers, teammates, or stakeholders, genuine appreciation lays a solid foundation for relationships. And as we all know, trust is the ultimate business hack. This Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for what agility has taught me: • Cherish the retrospectives. Pausing to reflect isn’t just an agile thing—it’s a life thing. Plus, it’s a great excuse to drink coffee and look busy. • Love the stand-ups. Team huddles aren’t just for updates, they’re where the magic—and the best jokes—happen. • Celebrate the MVPs. Whether it’s the Minimum Viable Product that saves the day or the Most Valuable People who make it all happen, they deserve a standing ovation (or at least a solid high-five). So here’s a big “thank you” to all the coaches, leaders, teams, and mentors who keep inspiring adaptability, creativity, and a touch of humor in the face of chaos. You’re the real MVPs.
