Gradually the Indian subcontinent is realising the fact that the development of military space assets is necessary to provide momentum to both the commercial ecosystem and international collaborations. As China remains the prime manufacturer and supplier in PakSAT-MM1R mission, it would be interesting to see how it can help scale a pathway for Chinese startups to grab more such international opportunities.

🌊🐉⛩️🗾 KAIJU EXPRESS 🌐🏗️🛢️💣 A pleasure to design and facilitate a 90 minute matrix-style educational wargame on the art of operational logistics for the Marine Corps Installations Pacific staff. Players integrated Service, Joint, Host Nation, and Commercial logistics systems to generate "positional advantage" and a resilient sustainment architecture for Stand-In Forces to achieve theater campaign objectives. In Turn 1, players forecasted the impact of adversary actions and friendly force demands to minimize the inevitable "Quantity Gap" of supply-demand mismatches from the tactical to strategic level of war, primarily caused by strategic shortfalls, demand uncertainty, lead-time, and a contested logistics environment. During this period of great power competition, we discussed how logistics can be a form of strategic signaling and deterrence. In Turn 2 as the situation transitioned to an extended conflict, players focused on minimizing the "Time Gap" in delivering the right resource at the right time to tactical echelons of Stand-In Forces via prioritization, coordination, and resource allocation. Players were caught in dilemmas as they attempted to maintain the endurance of the force and the warfighting posture of advanced bases. Throughout the facilitation we drew out several learning objectives and concepts, including the new Marine Corps Concept for Logistics. The G-8 (finance/resourcing) and the Commanding General helped close the session with a thorough debrief and the possibilities and challenges in subsequent turns. I gave a short encore showcasing several other commercially available tabletop games that have different models of operational logistics. 🙏 I thoroughly enjoyed the engagement from the Colonels and Civil Servants; certainly challenging to facilitate such a time-crunched game with a full conference room and remote attendees. Many thanks to SgtMaj for the great 🎲 dice rolls and helping me adjudicate. I really appreciated the support from the Commanding General, and his advocacy for serious gaming. This all started with an invitation and an idea from the MCIPAC G-4, Clifford D. Chen. I am happy I was able to share my passion for logistics and wargaming with a new audience.

Happy to share with you my latest article: ‘Collective capacity’ to top agenda at four-way defense talks in Hawaii When Defense Minister Minoru Kihara travels to Hawaii on Thursday for three days of talks with his U.S., Australian and Philippine counterparts, there will be one thing on his mind: how to deepen military and security cooperation to counter China. “Through this visit, I hope to send a strong message of unity among allies and like-minded countries toward the realization of a rules-based international order and a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Kihara told a news conference Friday. The gathering comes as Washington continues to bring regional allies and partners closer together in small groupings to build up what it calls “collective capacity.” While specifics have yet to be revealed, Kihara will join U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Philippine defense chief Gilberto Teodoro and Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles to discuss the regional security situation, common challenges and a wide range of initiatives to strengthen multilateral cooperation. High on the agenda are likely to be steps to follow up on the countries’ first-ever joint naval exercises in the disputed South China Sea earlier this month. Ostensibly intended to safeguard “the rule of law” and uphold freedom of navigation and overflight in the region, these joint activities are mainly seen as a show of force to deter Chinese aggression in contested waters in response to indications of the emergence of the new U.S.-led, quadrilateral security grouping in the region. Besides partaking in the four-way discussions — the second since last June — Kihara will hold bilateral talks with Austin and Marles and join a trilateral meeting with both, possibly with an eye on further integrating bilateral and trilateral logistics.
