Our 3-person team at SLX Capital works out of a co-working building at one of the busiest intersections of North Dallas (121 and Dallas North Tollway). According to CoWorking Mag, there was a 20% increase in total spaces nationwide between December 2022 and May 2024. Traditional offices aren't going anywhere, but the rise of new economies, working styles, and leaner teams can't be ignored. My personal predictions looking ahead to 2025: - Large companies (5,000+): We'll see smaller satellite offices open closer to suburbs where employees live. A 10 minute daily commute vs. 30+ minutes dramatically increases quality of an individual's life. These companies have the the highest leverage in rent negotiations as office occupancies in DFW are ~70%. - Medium companies (500 - 1,000): Hybrid schedules will become permanent meaning commuting 3x a week vs. 5x. These companies will recognize the most cost-savings in human capital. Most people will take a slight pay-cut for flexibility and the ability to work remotely. - Small companies (10 - 25): Rather than locking into long-term leases at traditional offices, they will go month-to-month in a co-working space or continue to work remotely across the world. -Micro companies ( < 10): You may end up reaching out to SLX Capital to purchase an office condo at The Compound that combines innovation, design, and location! 😎 Work is getting compressed. Teams are more trusting. Companies are getting smaller. However, productivity is sky-rocketing. I wouldn't be surprised to see companies run by 3-5 people over the next few years being valued over $1 billion.

Welcome to “Silicon Fields” What is planned for Austin and Taylor as a result of the CHIPS Act funding? The latest investment will go a long way toward establishing what federal officials are calling a "Central Texas cluster" for Samsung in Taylor and North Austin. In the next five years, it will lead to the creation of 4,500 manufacturing jobs, at least 17,000 construction jobs and tens of thousands of indirect jobs spurred by the supply chain moving to the region, federal officials said. The additional investment in Taylor will create what federal officials called "a comprehensive advanced manufacturing ecosystem." That includes two fabs to produce 4-nanometer and 2-nanometer chips, an advanced packaging facility to no longer handle that part of the process in Taiwan and a research-and-design lab that will mark the fourth of its kind in the world. Those elements are all expected to be completed by 2027.

April was a whirlwind of meaningful connections and strategic meetings!! Texas ACG Capital Connection - Dallas This was my first larger ACG event and I really liked the structure of this event being one one-on-one meeting focused vs a normal content-heavy conference. I was able to schedule over 20 meetings with PE Firms and other Advisory firms (Valuation firms, CPA firms, Buy-Side Advisory firms), all with the same goal - to make connections and do deals. This type of event structure is perfect for someone like me an introvert that has a hard time going up to small groups of people at more open networking events. I came away from this event knowing that I need to attend more Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) events, and so I scheduled to attend DealMAX in Vegas in late April. DealMAX - Vegas 3 days of networking and meetings with Private Equity Firms. Talking with over 20 PE Firms, all had similar challenges with being able to find the Right Talent for their upcoming acquisitions as well as for their Portfolio Companies - especially at the C-Level. All work with external recruitment firms, with experiences that ranged from terrible to good. Finding the right executive recruitment partner isn’t easy, but when you do find a good one, it is important to maintain that relationship. And it is up to the recruitment firm to produce a quality experience and find the Right Talent, every time! I left Vegas, with a little less money in my pocket (Thanks to Roulette) but made great connections and I anticipate multiple clients as a result of this event.

The business averages 100-120 calls per month on the mortuary side and also contracts with a couple of national shipping companies. In 2023, the business had ~316 Embalming and ~189 Cremation customers with the top 10 customers accounting for approximately ~65% of sales. Top 10 embalming clients account for ~86% of sales and top 10 cremation clients account for ~81% of sales. Recently, a major customer has been suspended, due to non-payment of invoices. There is a lot of room for growth with proper advertising, networking and adding another vehicle to take on larger volumes. The crematorium has space to add a 3rd retort in current building plus the plumbing is roughed-in for a 4th embalming station. Additionally, there is space on the real estate property to add an accessory building. The Company's well-trained and long-tenure General Manager holds all necessary licenses and runs all day-to-day operations. Owner primarily handles the financial aspect of the business such as payroll, invoicing, processing payments. Many of these tasks could be replaced with a bookkeeper or clerical staff. (Current owner has chosen to do these tasks.) While the owner has excellent industry knowledge, they readily admit that they lack business and finance training, or the marketing prowess to profitably grow the business.
