Jamie Dimon Signals Imminent Retirement as JPMorgan Advances Succession Plans At JPMorgan's annual investor day, CEO Jamie Dimon addressed a topic that's been on everyone's mind: his retirement. Known for joking that his retirement is always five years away, Dimon has now confirmed that the bank is actively working on succession plans. Dimon, who has been at the helm of the country's largest bank for nearly two decades, announced that JPMorgan is "well on the way" to identifying his successor. This move comes as the industry keenly watches who will take over one of the most influential roles in finance. Key leadership contenders have been positioned to gain broader experience: Jennifer Piepszak and Troy Rohrbaugh are now leading the expanded commercial and investment banking division. Marianne Lake has taken on the role of sole CEO of consumer banking. Mary Erdoes, head of asset and wealth management, emphasized that every new hire will be trained to use artificial intelligence, which Dimon has hailed as "transformational." "Forty-three percent of bank leaders say their organization is very or somewhat likely to buy another bank by the end of 2025, up from 35% a year earlier. Among respondents who were open to acquiring, scale to drive technology and other investments (43%) and geographic expansion (37%) are cited as the two most important factors driving acquisition strategies." TechCrunch Early Stage was one of the most useful and intimate tech conferences I’ve attended lately – sessions were short and packed with candid and actionable advice from top-tier leaders and operators, and everywhere I stood or sat all day, I found myself jumping into problem solving and connecting mode with new friends. 👋 Josh Kim, Josh Sellers, Sierra Freitas Riley Durrer 3. Kudos to Techstars Boston Accelerator, Venture Lane | Startup Hub, EKOS.AI, and WOMEN IN TECH ® Global Movement for capping the day off with an absolutely kickass mixer and panel. I didn’t realize until I was sitting within this talented, rowdy, and candid tribe of founders and funders that every single session I attended today was led exclusively by women. This was the first conference that was not explicitly by/for/about women that I’ve ever had this happen. 👏
