  • WVU Microgravity Research Team

    -

    • 1 of 14 teams two years in a row selected to participate in the national Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities (Summer 2011 & 2012).
    • Designed an electrostatic and electromagnetic fluidized beds that works in microgravity conditions, report and orally present research and design concept to peers, professionals, and alumni.
    • Participated in outreach programs promoting the importance of mathematics and science to high school students.

  • The Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition

    WVU had it's first taste of cyber defense competitions when it signed up to compete in the Mid-Atlantic CCDC. James Mantheiy, a graduate student led a team of both graduate and undergraduate students into the Virtual Qualifying Round for the Mid-Atlantic region.

    WVU placed second in the Qualifying Round, which gave us a bid to compete in the Regional Finals hosted at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland. We had no idea what to expect from the Regional…

    WVU placed second in the Qualifying Round, which gave us a bid to compete in the Regional Finals hosted at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland. We had no idea what to expect from the Regional Final, as this was WVU's first time ever making an appearance in these competitions. Out of 7 other colleges, WVU didn't place in the top 3.

    Looking ahead, WVU intends to return to the Regional Finals. We now know what kinds of preparations need to be made to make the top 3.
