Zscaler is proud to be a founding member of Akrites, a new The Linux Foundation initiative defending open-source software against AI-powered attacks.
The age of AI requires a new solution to cybersecurity challenges. Today, the Linux Foundation and industry leaders launched Akrites, a coordinated effort to defend critical open source software against AI-enabled cyber threats. Founding members of this effort include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Anthropic, Chainguard, Cisco, Citi, Endor Labs, Ericsson, Google, IBM, JPMorganChase, Microsoft, GitHub, NVIDIA, OpenAI, RAPIDFORT, Red Hat, Rust Foundation, Sonatype, Vodafone and Zscaler. Frontier AI models can now scan major software projects and surface vulnerabilities in minutes. To address this challenge, Akrites establishes a shared Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) and a standardized Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process built on confidentiality-first principles. Backed by founding commitments from global technology leaders, AI labs, financial institutions, and security vendors, this initiative brings a unified, predictable partnership to upstream maintainers. Read the open letter and learn why top organizations are joining together in this critical effort https://lnkd.in/exs7y_2d and visit https://akrites.org to learn how to get involved.

74,000 internet-facing firewalls were compromised across 194 countries in June 2026 — without a new vulnerability. That’s what organizations still relying on perimeter security need to pay attention to. This was not just a patching issue. Even fully patched devices with strong passwords were exposed. The real problem is the design: when firewalls and VPNs are exposed to the internet, attackers already have a path in. Join Zscaler leaders Deepen Desai & George Moser for an urgent breakdown of what FortiBleed shows about firewall-based security and why zero trust removes the attack surface instead of trying to defend it. What happens when you bring Rust enthusiasts together at Zscaler HQ? Incredible energy, deep-tech discussions, and a room packed with innovation. In partnership with Lawrence Harvey, our very own Srinivas Kavuri and the team recently hosted a fantastic Rust Engineer Meetup at our San Jose headquarters, bringing local developers and systems engineers together to network and explore the future of high-performance infrastructure. A massive thank you to our speakers who took us deep into the technical weeds: ⚡️ Vimal Jeyakumar broke down how we are building next-generation, High-Performance Network Services using greenfield Rust teams. ⚡ Special Guest Carl Lerche (Creator & Maintainer of Tokio and Toasty) shared masterclass insights on managing complex threading and queues using Tokio and Rust. At Zscaler, we are incredibly proud to be a growing hub for Rust development and innovation. Swipe through to see some highlights from the evening! #LifeAtZscaler #Rust #SystemsEngineering #TechMeetup #SoftwareEngineering #Developers
