YPO and OQ recently hosted an insightful webinar titled "From Vision to Impact—Sustainability in Action," moderated by renowned journalist Riz Khan. The webinar discussed #sustainability in the #plastics industry and Oman's emerging role in fostering a #CircularEconomy. Riz Khan set the tone with his engaging anecdotes and emphasized Oman's unique position as a "hidden gem waiting to be discovered," highlighting its blend of rich traditions and modern ambitions. HH Sayyid Tarik Al Said, founder of Oman's first conservation NGO, shared profound insights into Oman's strategic location and its centuries-old traditions of hospitality and neutrality. Emphasizing environmental stewardship, HH asserted, "The responsibility for dealing with plastic waste lies predominantly with the producer. It's essential to think cradle-to-cradle and embrace a circular approach." His call for producers to take full responsibility for the lifecycle of their products resonated deeply with the audience. HE Ali Al Sunaidy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), discussed Oman's incentives for sustainable investments. HE highlighted the nation's commitment to renewable energy and becoming a net-zero nation by 2050. "With the right incentives and packages, businesses are ready to go the extra mile to ensure that their industries are clean and environmentally responsible," HE affirmed, emphasizing the collaborative effort between government and industry. I had the pleasure of participating in the panel discussion with Sabrina Al Bakri (Group CFO of OQ), Akshay Shah (Group Executive Director of Silafrica) and Shayan N. Sumar (Managing Director of Apex Transgulf Manufacturing LLC ). Sabrina outlined OQ's efforts to develop the petrochemical sector sustainably, focusing on purpose-driven polymer products. Akshay emphasized viewing waste as a resource, stating, "Waste must be viewed as raw material. The future is a circular economy where 100% of waste becomes 100% of raw material." Shayan highlighted the need for advanced technologies to handle recycled materials, while I spoke about leveraging the YPO network for global collaboration, noting, "With a platform like YPO, we have an amazing opportunity to build locally but think globally."

With it being Thanksgiving season, I’d like to recognize something that’s given me a lot over the past four years. I'm so thankful and grateful to be a YPO member. When I’m with people from YPO, I’m able to have real genuine conversations. A few tenets that permeate YPO really enable this level of connection and exchange. One is confidentiality. Another is non-solicitation. And one is fast response. When you put those three things together, you really get an opportunity to think through – if not solve – an issue. Whether I’m dealing with something in my business, personal life or community, I find that YPO members care to genuinely help. They listen. They offer their perspective. And so often, they’ve been right there – going through similar things because they run large businesses and are also trying to balance their priorities as leaders, parents and spouses. It’s such a wonderful thing to have resources you can lean on, knowing that people’s only vested interest is to help you be better and to help you do better. In turn, you can offer that to them as well. Thank you, YPO. All these real conversations have led to so many real improvements in my work and life.

I also came across the badge from my very first Global Leadership Conference (GLC) in Melbourne Australia.
