It was a privilege to co-facilitate discussion space with a coalition of digital rights and gender equality experts, including Varaidzo Faith M. from Pollicy. to kick off a busy week at #SummitOfTheFuture. We brought together over 70 representatives from civil organizations and individual activists to discuss how we will respond as the #GlobalDigitalCompact moves from the negotiation state to adoption and implementation, and decisions made in the space will guide how we monitor teh #GDC in real terms. A key takeaway of this day was the urgency of strengthening relationships across civil society, and making space for all cross-cutting issues. We look forward to further collaboration with partners from all regions, focused on #Climate, #LabourRights, #education and more, recognising that we all share a digital future and might affect or be affected by decisions made for the digital space. 🌍 Find out more about how you can be part of these discussions by getting in touch: https://audri.org/join-us Equality Now Derechos Digitales Association for Progressive Communications Women At The Table UN Women United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Women's Rights Online Network Pollicy

In the run up to the #SummitOfTheFuture, we co-hosted a meeting of over 70 digital and gender rights activists and civil society representatives to discuss the role we will play in ensuring that the #GlobalDigitalCompact is implemented effectively, and that it is fit for purpose. As Equality Now’s Tsitsi Matekaire explains, it is important that we continue to engage with governments to ensure that they are upholding the commitments laid out in the #GDC. It is also necessary to make sure that everyone’s voice is included in these ongoing conversations - something which we are deeply committed to enabling at all levels and across multiple sectors. Last year, Amandeep Gill attended our civil society meeting in Kyoto, where we used the #InternetGovernanceForum as a platform to bring diverse gender and digital rights organizations and activists together to formulate recommendations for gender-inclusive principles to be included in the #GDC. Our focus will now shift to monitoring and assessment of these. This week, in the run up to the #SummitOfTheFuture, we met with civil society partners to discuss the criteria we will use. 🌐 UN Member States Reach Agreement on the Global Digital Compact World leaders at the Summit of the Future have agreed on a Global Digital Compact, a landmark framework for governing digital technologies and artificial intelligence. The Compact also represents the first collective effort to establish interoperability standards and supports networks to build AI capacity in developing countries. Anchored in human rights and sustainable development, this Compact places digital at the center of international cooperation, with universal principles and concrete actions driving a fair, inclusive digital future. This is a huge moment, and one which we have been looking towards for nearly two years. Together with civil society partners, we have worked over the past year to influence governments and decision makers to ensure that the #GlobalDigitalCompact includes #GenderEquality as a key component, and ensures a digital future that benefits, empowers and protects women and girls within the digital ecosystem. As we head into the final day of the #SummitOfTheFuture, which focuses on digital futures, we will be analyzing the final draft of the #GDC and compiling feedback and responses from engagement with partners, allies and activists. The need to develop a reference framework arises from the urgency to provide tools for policymakers and statistical agencies to consider the nuances, complexities, and challenges of OGBV/TFGBV.
#OGBV manifests in various forms and varies according to regional contexts, making it necessary to develop common conceptual frameworks to address it effectively. #WROnetwork

Women, in their rich diversity, face a spectrum of online dangers that men are far less likely to encounter. The stark disparity in these experiences calls for a specific and tailored approach to mitigating online harm. From non-consensual image sharing and doxxing (the unauthorized release of personal information) to social media harassment and cyberstalking, the range of gender-based abuses underscores the urgency of prioritizing women’s right to privacy. #OGBV #TFGBV #WROnetwork
