The suspension of balloon operations at the National Weather Service's Kotzebue site will create significant weather forecasting challenges in the already underobserved Arctic region, but WindBorne Systems plans to help by launching long-duration Global Sounding Balloons from a new Alaska site by March's end, providing data to NWS at no initial cost.
