  • Jim Hopkins says he was a “tough guy” who didn’t think he needed to get a colonoscopy, which can catch pre-cancerous polyps before they turn into cancer. The 73-year-old former construction worker started to notice symptoms and decided it was time to visit his physician. He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, meaning it had spread beyond his colon to other organs. Jim wants everyone to take it from tough guy: “Don’t be bullheaded like me. Go and get a colonoscopy whenever your doctor recommends it.” Read his story: https://lnkd.in/eWTA4eU2

  • 5-star care meets 5-star patient humor 🦶 When Adam Roberts was scheduled to have a bone spur removed by Dr. Cush at WellSpan Orthopedics in Lewisburg, he pictured life with reduced pain — and the opportunity to celebrate the care team responsible for the positive change.  Adam got to work – quickly placing an order for a specialty cake depicting a foot, with extra attention to a pronounced bump on the joint on the big toe.  It’s not often a red velvet “toe” cake makes its way through our doors. Adam’s effort is a reminder to celebrate the big and small moments in life — and a thank you to our team makes a world of difference.  Adam – we wish you many more moments of joy, without a bone spur weighing you down!

  • Blood donation is a universal act of kindness and connects us all, no matter where we live or what language we speak.  Lucia Bruno, a lifelong blood donor from Italy who now lives in Pennsylvania, was determined to continue her tradition of donating. So, when she visited our WellSpan Apple Hill Donor Center and shared her intentions using Google Translate, our team was excited to help Lucia achieve her goal and break down the language barrier by using the My Interpreter Assistant (MIA) device.  With a simple push of a button, Lucia was instantly connected to an Italian translator, helping her feel right at home. Our team is proud to provide exceptional care for all!  “Lucia knew how important it was that she donates, and we helped her achieve her goal of donating blood in her new country,” says Steve LaCour, supervisor of laboratory blood resources. Thank you for your donation, Lucia!
