If you're into energy storage you are familiar with the Modo Energy - USA podcast. How storage intersects with the grid and how we create demand-side energy markets is only one of the topics touched on in this conversation. Check out the podcast interview with McGee Young talking with Joel Cesare and Owen Barrett about software, buildings, and getting M&V right. https://lnkd.in/dpVP6vC8
On this week’s show my co-host mocks me and our esteemed guest for thinking our software jobs are actually making a difference… A fair question. And one of many provocative questions debated with McGee Young the founder of WattCarbon, on this episode of Less Talk, More Action. “Maybe Software Can Help Decarbonize Buildings” #LessTalkMoreAction #AI #buildingdecarb 💻 lesstalkmoreaction.com 🎙️ Spotify: https://lnkd.in/emmahXTS 🔊 Apple: https://lnkd.in/eeNBCndz YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eZwyYQA2

Big day at WattCarbon. Today we unveiled Aristotle — a platform built to transform how organizations measure, verify, and prove carbon savings. It's the first of its kind: AI-powered, automated M&V with hour-by-hour emissions tracking. We've been fortunate to be able to build this alongside enthusiastic partners like Prologis, Rewiring America, Northern Pacific Power Systems, Elephant Energy and others. I've been working on the challenge of "M&V 2.0" for about a decade now. It's always felt close, but just out reach. But I think we've finally cracked it. A couple of things made this possible. 1) Integrations with companies like UtilityAPI, Arcadia, and Bayou Energy to leverage the fact that smart meter data is fairly ubiquitous now 2) Data and technology infrastructure that allows us to do things today that were impossible a few years ago. 3) An incredible engineering team led by Neil Williams and including Stephen Suffian, Dave Yeager, Heather MacDonald, Nathaniel Meierpolys and our talented designer Juliana Press. I dropped a long blog post over the weekend that went into depth on our work. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gxEirxYN TLDR: Any company or organization that uses one of our data partners to collect meter data can now use WattCarbon to automatically track energy and carbon savings in their buildings. Our AI-powered energy modeling tools create reference models to show you exactly how you should expect your building to be performing and how your savings are measuring up. It's real-time ROI analysis. Check it out at: wattcarbon.com

Spent some time this weekend thinking about what's next for the energy decarbonization movement. - Stakes are higher for justifying investments. Have to get serious about M&V. - Will be a bottom-up movement for a while, driven by communities that care. - There's still an air of inevitability to it all.

Your decarbonization investment can help take the whack-a-mole out of night-time electricity usage. Heating and hot water together make up two-thirds of residential energy use and 10% of global emissions. At night time, emissions can be even worse. When the sun is down, the grid is dirtier, and access to clean energy is tougher. WattCarbon partner Harvest is tackling this head-on with a simple, powerful approach: smart thermal batteries that store clean energy when it’s cheapest and greenest. Jane Melia, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of Harvest says it best: “With our tech, people buying Harvest watt-hours are truly getting the cleanest electrons.” The benefits for corporate investors? 🛰️ Accelerate new, distributed clean energy projects 💨 Achieve permanent emissions reductions 🔆 Support local community impact goals 📉 Decrease your Scope 3 🔗 Learn more about how your company can build its decarbonization portfolio, today: https://lnkd.in/e2bzHJQc Support decarbonization that drives the cleanest and cheapest watt-hour possible on a more sustainable grid by browsing investment opportunities on the OpenEAC Exchange. 🔗 Shop heatpump EACs: https://lnkd.in/e68d5rEj #cleanenergy #decarbonization #heatpumps #renewableenergy #EACs

For companies committed to decarbonization, Harvest's Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) open doors to impactful electrification investments beyond your own operations. And since home heating and hot water drive two-thirds of residential energy use, and create 10% of global emissions, we know that corporate investment is not only helpful, it's imperative to scaling and accelerating solutions. Why invest? 🛰️ Accelerate new, distributed clean energy projects 💨 Achieve permanent emissions reductions 🔆 Support local community impact goals 📉 Decrease your Scope 3 “By combining heat pumps with affordable thermal storage, we can electrify every home without adding strain to the grid, at scale,” says Jane Melia, Ph.D., Harvest Thermal’s CEO and co-founder.
