How do you install a Dynamic Line Rating sensor? There are many types of sensors, by National Grid highlights one approach in the video below. This sensor will be able to calculate the real-time capacity of the line. As National Grid collects data about the line performance, they'll be able to forecast the line capacity accurately to get more value out of their infrastructure.

The latest white paper from EPRI focuses on topology optimization software and solutions which were developed at NewGrid, and how the technology reduces grid congestion and addresses reliability challenges. EPRI notes: -- The main topology optimization benefit is the additional flexibility it provides for managing reliability, operations, and transmission congestion. -- The industry has a growing interest in topology optimization given the increased number of studies RTOs have conducted to assess viability and benefits. -- The benefits of topology optimization in mitigating transmission constraints are noted in extensive case studies by various organizations. -- Flexibility and reliability benefits of topology optimization could be realized in as little as 2.5 years with an accelerated implementation plan as provided in the paper. (Considering topology optimization in long-term planning can help increase the capability of investments and create a more flexible grid.)
