Headed to back SXSW this week to debut Currents, an immersive short by Jake Oleson, premiering at the XR Experience Competition. Working with Jake via ASTRSK has been amazing - he's a multidisciplinary artist redefining immersive storytelling through film, music and cutting-edge technology. With a background in documentary filmmaking and interactive media, his work blends cinematography with innovative narrative techniques – and Currents is his most ambitious project yet. Commissioned by Vimeo for its Apple Vision Pro launch, Currents is redefining storytelling – blending live-action VR, motion capture and 8K-per-lens spatial video to create a film you don’t just watch – you feel. It’s one of the first independent films produced for the Apple Vision Pro, setting a new bar for immersive media. What’s wild is that this isn’t just about tech it’s about emotion, movement, and the future of storytelling. Shot on location in Vietnam, the film follows Linh, a young woman navigating the tension between tradition and rapid change in Ho Chi Minh City – a story that hits differently when you step inside it through the Vision Pro. Throughout February, Vimeans came together to celebrate Black History Month.
