In many workplaces, managing a chronic condition may come with stigma, missed opportunities, and even career setbacks. A new poll from Harvard shows that employees with chronic conditions are more likely to feel they can’t take breaks, miss out on promotions, or struggle to get the care they need. At Vida, we’re aiming to shift the conversation, provide real support, and create environments where everyone can thrive.

Getting back into a workout routine can feel like a struggle. Josh McKenney, Sr. Manager, Software Engineering at Vida, says the key is finding something you love - like he did with his neighborhood basketball league. Movement should be enjoyable, so start small and be kind to yourself. The best exercise is the one you’ll actually stick with!

Obesity care needs a reset. For too long, treatment has been fragmented, stigma-filled, and overly reliant on prescriptions. As Gretchen Zimmermann, MBA, RD, LD, CDCES, CSOWM says below, real, lasting change comes from a comprehensive, person-centered approach that treats the whole person, not just the number on the scale. This #ObesityCareWeek, let’s push for science-backed, compassionate care that supports long-term success.
Vice President of Clinical Strategy | Dual Board-Certified Dietitian, Obesity and Diabetes Management | Value-Based Care | Key Opinion Leader
Obesity is one of the most misunderstood and poorly treated chronic diseases today. It’s not a willpower issue—it’s a complex metabolic, behavioral, and environmental condition. Yet too often, people with obesity are met with stigma instead of science, and quick fixes instead of real, lasting care. As a registered dietitian and clinical leader, I’ve seen firsthand that medications alone are not the solution. GLP-1s and other anti-obesity medications can be powerful tools, but they must be part of a comprehensive, wraparound care model that gives people the skills and support they need to sustain health long-term. Care like: Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) – Evidence-based nutrition for real metabolic change – so much more impactful than just "eat less, move more” Personalized medical care – Responsible prescribing of GLP-1s and alternative AOMs, when appropriate Behavioral and mental health support – Addressing food relationships, stress, and emotional triggers Physical activity guidance – Helping people move in sustainable, achievable ways Yet, most healthcare systems and employer benefits fail to provide this level of care. That has to change. During Obesity Care Week, let’s challenge the outdated, fragmented approach to obesity treatment. People deserve better. They deserve care that is science-backed, stigma-free, and built for long-term success—not just another prescription. If we truly want to improve lives and reduce the healthcare burden of obesity, we must demand comprehensive, person-centered care that treats the whole person—not just the weight. #obesityweek #obesity #obesitymanagement #healthcare #cardiometabolic #weightstigma

Chronic conditions, like diabetes and heart disease, are costing employees more than just their health. They’re impacting careers, opportunities, and productivity. A new national poll from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the de Beaumont Foundation revealed that nearly half of those polled felt they couldn’t take time off or a break to address their conditions, and 1 in 4 say their condition has cost them a promotion. No one should have to choose between their health and their career. At Vida, we strive to make it easier for employees to get the care they need without compromising their work or well-being.
