🫀 The cardiologist shortage isn’t just a staffing issue—it’s a public health crisis in slow motion. Dr. Roger Kerzner’s recent post highlights 10 sobering stats that underscore the growing gap between cardiovascular care demand and workforce supply. Consider this: -Nearly 50% of U.S. counties lack a single practicing cardiologist -Wait times for general cardiovascular visits have surged 26% since 2017 -By 2035, each cardiologist may be responsible for 1,700 patients This isn’t just about access—it’s about outcomes. Rural and underserved communities face higher mortality rates, longer travel distances, and fewer preventive care options. And with burnout, hyperspecialization, and retirements accelerating, the pipeline is thinning fast. 📣 Heartbeat Health is working to improve access! #Cardiology #HealthcareWorkforce #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #MedTwitter #LinkedInMedicine #CardiologistShortage

I read these statistics from Beckers today: https://lnkd.in/eu8bXdky They are all true, but I’m still optimistic for the future. Based on my growing experience with virtual cardiology, the opportunities to solve this challenge of a shortage of cardiologists with a different way of providing cardiovascular expertise compared to the traditional approach are robust. We have the ability to care for more patients, and achieve better outcomes on the population level by practicing differently.

Spreading the word on virtual cardiology!
Heartbeat Health is live at #AHIP2025! Our Chief Medical Officer Jana M. Goldberg, MD, FACC took the stage to discuss the importance of closing geographic gaps in access to cardiology care. 🫀 Almost half of U.S. counties have no local cardiologist – with rural areas most impacted – and the care gap is widening at a dangerous pace. By leveraging our nationwide network of virtual cardiologists, Heartbeat Health is expanding reach and relieving pressure on an overstretched system, especially in regions with too few providers. #VirtualCardiology #VirtualCare #Telehealth

I've noticed that some of the most stubborn problems in healthcare aren’t caused by bad ideas — they’re caused by good-sounding ones. We keep repeating mantras like: 🗣 “More access = better outcomes” 🗣 “Doctors resist innovation” 🗣 “Digital care is cheaper care” 🗣 “We just need to align the incentives” 🗣 “Fee-for-service is the problem” But what if these aren’t timeless truths — just slogans that sound good in a pitch deck? As we build the future of healthcare, it’s worth taking a second look at the ideas we’ve quietly accepted as gospel. Some need refining. Some need rewriting. And some… might just be flat-out wrong. What healthcare mantras do you think deserve a second opinion?
