Join Urban Peace Institute in conversation with eight Los Angeles intervention workers featured in our upcoming film series, Peacemakers on Peacemakers. As the new administration threatens the sustainability of our work, peacemakers are committed to doing what they always have: saving lives. During a time of uncertainty, this event is an opportunity to gather in solidarity and reflect together on how to sustain and strengthen our community safety strategies amidst turbulence. Together, we can stand against policies that are intended to harm our most vulnerable communities, and instead uplift and champion Black and Brown unity. LA Peacemakers Initiative is a project focusing on enhancing community safety in LA’s most violence-impacted neighborhoods. Through the initiative, Urban Peace Institute is administering millions in federal and philanthropic grants to 18 CVI organizations. Since the beginning of the initiative, the average number of non-fatal injuries reported per month by coalition members decreased by 24%. In 2024, peacemakers proved what we know to be true: community violence intervention saves lives. Now more than ever, it is imperative to recognize the successful impact of the LA Peacemakers Initiative as we work tirelessly to ensure funding is sustained. 📢 WHAT NOW? Sign UPI’s Peace Pledge at https://lnkd.in/gxBmWWSM to join the movement for peace and justice! Everybody deserves safety. Gun violence is a public health crisis AND a financial one, wreaking havoc particularly on Black and Brown communities across America. We know community violence intervention works! Federal funding for effective community-based safety efforts such as this are at risk of significant cuts with the incoming administration. We can’t let this happen. Join UPI in the movement to advocate to ensure that the federal government continues supporting this lifesaving work. Sign the Peace Pledge at the link in bio to show your commitment to peace and receive action alerts for advocacy opportunities. #endgunviolence #fundpeacemakers
