Some kids decorate their rooms with posters of pop stars and athletes. But when First Officer Asiwome D. was a kid growing up in Ghana, his walls were covered with flight school brochures. After earning his master’s degree in aerospace science in the U.S., Asiwome returned to Ghana to help establish a flight school and found a nonprofit dedicated to developing the aviation industry in West Africa. Then he found his way to United. Now piloting Dreamliners, Asiwome recently engineered an unforgettable moment for his family *and* everyone else on board: surprising his dad and stepmom as the captain flying them back to Accra, Ghana. #BlackHistoryMonth
