As part of the Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo-funded #SmartClimate project, #Weather4DRR is a critical tool for accessing updated extreme rainfall data linked to the #CHIDO Tropical Storm's track over #Malawi. Users can easily access ECMWF, GFS, GPM and RFE rainfall accumulation datasets and overlay them to perform risk analysis and enhance preparedness contributing to achieving the goals of the #EarlyWarningsForAll initiative. We are excited to have had the opportunity to present our two works: 1. Enhancing agricultural decisions and reducing disaster risk for farmers in Nkhotakota and Karonga (Malawi) through the Community-Based Observation Network (CBON) 2. 'Enhancing Access and Usability of Weather Data to Strengthen Early Warning Systems at Institutional and Community Levels' at the event 'Building Resilience in Southern Africa: Research Support Early Warning Systems for All in a Changing Risk Landscape' held in Lilongwe, Malawi. Combining ground observations, local knowledge and innovative digital technologies is key to better understanding the impacts of climate at the local scale and empowering people to take appropriate action. #REPRESA #CBON #3MapIMS CLARE Programme International Development Research Centre (IDRC) FCDO Services CISP Kenya (International Committee for the Development of Peoples)

We did it 🥇 🥇 🥈!!! #Paris2024 We have successfully translated the winds and currents of Marseille Bay into meaning! By collecting over 24 million wind data, observing clouds and collaboratively analyzing the complex relationships between winds, sea currents and sailing strategy we have played a crucial role in the victories of Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr 🥇, @Valentin Bontus 🥇 and Pavlos Kontides 🥈. It has been an unforgettable three-years journey marked by exceptional teamwork and relentless pursuit of excellence. We are proud and honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Österreichischer Segel-Verband (OeSV) and its weather partners since London 2012. Special thanks to Pierre Bourcier; you never gave up on the dream of providing the team with robust technology to collect the most accurate weather and oceanographic data. Thank you also to Alicia Ageno; your innovative research on #clusteringanalysis of wind data has added a great value to our understanding of weather patterns. And thanks to Mate Arapov, Jozo Jakelić and everyone in the team who shared their daily observations, knowledge and insights. The secret to using weather to plan winning strategies goes beyond just reliable models and accurate data: it’s an interdisciplinary process that values every contribution, from cutting-edge technology to the wisdom of sailors and coaches. We are ready to go for more in #LA28 #excellence #friendship #respect Österreichisches Olympisches Comité #3MapIMS #austrialovessailing

#CBON: an easy, robust and scalable technological solution to strengthen #EarlyWarnings and #Preparedness at local level in line with the #EarlyWarningsForAll Initiative. As highlighted by the UNFCCC UN during the June 2024 climate meeting 'Location-based messaging, for example, can help communities receive targeted warnings directly on their phones, ensuring they have the information they need to protect people and livelihoods ahead of extreme weather events. Similarly, real-time monitoring can empower residents to take swift community action and build resilience.'. The Community-Based Observation Network developed by TriM and implemented in Kenya, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, in collaboration with international NGOs and local authorities, is key in empowering vulnerable communities to collect, access, and utilize climate and weather-related data to strengthen early warnings and preparedness at local level in line with the #EarlyWarningsForAll initiative. Easy-to-understand, location-based messages are regularly produced thanks to the invaluable information entered into the system by community observers. These messages include information about observed #weather conditions, #indigenousknowledge, #weatherimpacts on health and natural resources and #actionstaken. CBON can be easily integrated into any project that aims to engage communities in observing, measuring, recording, and using climate data to improve resilience and climate adaptation. Last training camp in #Marseille to use and validate our #Paris2024 Weather Patterns Book. Over the past 3 years we have collected more than 81,245 minutes of measurements at sea: 24,373,500 wind and 3.254 sea current observations. We have analyzed more than 250 days of feedback through our #3MapIMS and interpreted it with coaches and sailors to find easy-to-use correlations between weather and sailing strategy. We are now ready to apply the knowledge we have developed at the upcoming #OlympicGames Go Austrian Sailing Federation sailors and our weather partners Filip Jurišić (CRO), Jonatan Vadnai (HUN), Pavlos Kontides (CYP)! Special thanks to Andrea Boscolo, Mate Arapov and Alicia Ageno for your invaluable support in #datacollection, #cloudsobservation, #dataanalysis and #clusteringanalysis
