Hot take: Podcasts are fun and impactful as a part of a book launch and promotion strategy. Before #microskills launched, I was recording with a The Visible Voices Podcast guest. At her request, we recorded months ahead of time and I dropped it near her launch date. She sought 100 podcast guest appearances. Initially gobsmacked by the number, I have a better understanding of her "why". With the new year, I wanted to share a huge note of appreciation and acknowledgment to all of the podcast creators and hosts who generously recorded with us. (this is a sample of yes almost 100) In my experience, joining podcasts and talking about #microskills and #writing as a physician, healthcare designer, and educator helped visibility, credibility, and engagement. Some of what podcasts help: —Direct Access to Audiences Podcasts have niche audiences, allowing direct connection with listeners interested in you and your book's topic. —Cost-Effective Promotion Podcast appearances are mostly free: you can reach an audience without paid ads or elaborate tours. To be clear, you do invest time however it's calendar flexible and you are mostly comfortably at home. —In-Depth Conversations Podcasts give you time to speak deeply about your book's structure, content, message and stories. You gain excellent experience speaking about your book and refining your stories. —Build Credibility Being featured on respected podcasts boosts the book's credibility and highlights your subject matter expertise. A podcast appearance serves as an endorsement by the host so in turn it's an opportunity to amplify them and share the episode NB: Give them a great rating on all podcast channels. —Expand Your Network Podcasting introduces you to hosts, producers, and other potential collaborators. These connections can lead to opportunities, such as speaking engagements and newsletter entries. NB: When you record with a host, ask them if there are other podcasts they think would be a good fit for you and your book. Ask if they can make an intro. —Book Sales We are told that podcasts help drive sales. I have met people who told me they bought the book after hearing us on a podcast so certainly it did not hurt. —Generate Evergreen Content Podcast episodes stay online indefinitely, giving the book long-term exposure. —An Online Presence Podcast show notes and weblinks, enhance your discoverability. —Create Momentum Podcast guest appearances build excitement. (for you and for them). Listeners are more likely to check out a book they've heard about multiple times. —Create fun Yes. These conversations were fun injections of joy and good for connection and #health.
