🎆ChEW's Festival of Impact & Evaluation returns for the second year running🎆 In 2024 we held our first in-person event since the Covid pandemic and it was wonderful to be able to get our members together IRL. Last year's festival was such a success that we had to run it again in 2025 - this time we'll be holding at Resource for London, in north London on 11/06/2025. The theme for this year's festival is 'Making the most of evaluation', and just like last year, we we're looking for speakers who can talk to one or more of the following: 💡Turning learning into action: How do we extract actionable insights from evaluations and translate them into real-world changes? 🗣️ Communicating with impact: How can we effectively share evaluation findings (successes, challenges, and learnings) to drive change? 🌟Cultivating an evaluation-positive culture: How can we shift the culture so that organisations see it as fundamental to achieving their goals We want to amplify diverse voices and are particularly interested in speakers from Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority backgrounds. Submit your abstract today for a chance to speak at the festival: https://lnkd.in/e-a964rH
The Charity Evaluation Working Group ( ChEW)
Non-profit Organizations
A network for those evaluating impact in the third sector, sharing best practice to help charities change the world.
About us
We began in 2011 as an informal group of likeminded people who wanted to learn from each other over a coffee. From that first meeting of six people, ChEW has grown to over 100 organisational members, ranging from the largest to the smallest charities in the UK. Membership remains free for charities with an annual turnover of below £1m, and only a modest fee towards costs for larger charities. Our aims remain the same as when we were first founded: Sharing expertise and feedback on the planning, development, commissioning and delivery of evaluations. Facilitating peer-to-peer learning about how evaluations can show impact and drive improvements across charitable interventions. Providing a confidential space to discuss challenges facing evaluation leads within charities. Providing communities of practice for evaluators on particular themes (e.g. working with children, evaluating health interventions). Acting as a ‘force for change’ within the evaluation field. This means using our collective experience to drive forward and improve evaluation practice. We hope you can join us on our mission to better demonstrate the impact of charities.

Fellow independent evaluators, heads of evaluation, evaluation managers, and all-around evaluation aficionados – I need your help! We all know that charities, social enterprises and other organisations can struggle to share their evaluation findings, often for a variety of reasons. I’m on the hunt for examples of where funders, commissioners, infrastructure organisations or others are encouraging the partners they work with to share their evaluation findings and lessons with others. I’m interested in examples from any and all sectors – from education to health, housing to human rights, community development to international development - to help me with an internal piece of research I'm working on for a client. Please add any ideas or suggestions below, or message me directly! --- I'm Tim. I help charities have a bigger impact through better measurement. #Charities #SocialPurpose #ImpactMeasurement #Evaluation Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash

In our sector, interventions take place in dynamic, unpredictable, and complex environments. For our next event we will explore robust evaluation methods that move beyond traditional hierarchies of methodology, comparing systems and project-based approaches. We'll examine how to embed these frameworks in practice, focusing on rigour and the purpose of evaluation. Date: 13/03/2025 Time: 12:00pm - 1:15pm Where: Online via Zoom Speakers: Kerry McCarthy, Independent Consultant Stephen Miller, Independent Consultant Secure your spot today: https://lnkd.in/e_Y5JUFs

Exciting news from the Equitable Evaluation Collective (EEC) - we're moving towards a decentralised governance model! A few weeks ago we facilitated a governance workshop to explore what a more decentralised model could look like. We discussed how EEC can better reflect and serve our growing community, creating a shared mission and how decision-making could be more democratic. We've got lots of ideas about how we take this forward, demonstrating our commitment to open communications and collective decision-making. Link in comments if you're interested in reading more about what's next. Huge thanks to Kelley Buhles for sharing her wisdom so generously. #EquitableEvaluation #Governance #Community #CollectiveDecisionMaking
EEC recently facilitated a governance workshop with eight active members of EEC’s community to explore our transition towards a more decentralised model. Really appreciate people’s valuable insights on strengthening EEC’s shared mission, fostering community engagement, and embedding democratic decision-making into EEC’s future. We’re excited to continue this journey together! Read our reflections and next steps here: https://lnkd.in/dPtfTy4Q Join the conversation – Have you seen any effective decentralised governance model? Sometimes using traditional evaluation tools, like surveys, can feel like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole - they don’t work. Creative methods can be a more engaging and inclusive alternative. In our next event, Jami Dixon, from @BrightImpactCIC will provide an introduction to creative methods, when they can work well, and some challenges to think about. By the end of it, you’ll be familiar with what creative methods are, and have some ideas about what methods may work in your context. 🗓️ Date: 19 February 🕛 Time: 12:00 - 12.45 pm 💻 Where: Online via Zoom Book your spot now: https://lnkd.in/edpNGdd9
