"Staking" is an overused and often misunderstood term, but its roots lie in Proof of Stake (PoS), the dominant blockchain consensus mechanism. At its core, PoS secures networks by requiring validators to stake tokens. Good actors earn rewards for honest validation, while bad actors risk slashing. When users stake, they receive a receipt token, a proof of their staked holdings. Initially, staking was limited to securing Layer 1 chains, but Eigen Labs introduced a super interesting concept: restaking.
