We enjoyed sharing the construction progress on our new research building with Innovate Alabama leaders and touring our state-of-the-art Station 41 Incubator facility. We’re grateful to Innovate Alabama for their support of our Station 41 Therapeutics Development Fund through the Innovate Alabama Tax Credit Program, which is fueling the development of life-saving therapeutics and the growth of Alabama’s biotechnology industry by providing in-kind scientific services and entrepreneurial support to biotechnology startups.

About us
Southern Research is a nonprofit, translational scientific research organization with an 80-year legacy of moving science through drug discovery, drug development and environmental health. This legacy includes helping shape modern cancer treatment practices by developing seven FDA-approved cancer drugs and co-creating a COVID-19 vaccine currently in clinical trials. These innovations are made possible because of our greatest assets, our people that move science every day at every level of Southern Research.

Since breaking ground in the summer of 2022, we've been eagerly anticipating the opening of our new state-of-the-art facility—set to open in July 2025! This 135,000-square-foot high-rise addition will feature four floors of wet labs and offices designed to extend our research capabilities, enable new initiatives, and support continued expansion. It will be a welcome addition to our campus, first established 80 years ago, and continues to demonstrate our commitment to growth, progress, and a brighter future.

We are very excited to share that the U.S. Economic Development Administration has awarded the Birmingham Biotechnology Hub $44M across five projects! This is a outstanding team win for many partner organizations across Birmingham and the state of Alabama.
