International journal focusing on the development and application of modeling languages
About us
Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM) is a bi-monthly international journal (published in English) that focuses on theoretical and practical issues pertaining to the development and application of modeling languages and techniques for software, as well as engineered and natural systems and processes. The aim of the journal is to publish high-quality works that (1) further understanding of the theoretical and foundational underpinnings of modeling languages and techniques, (2) present rigorous analyses of modeling experiences, and (3) introduce scalable modeling techniques and processes that facilitate rigorous and efficient development and understanding of software and systems. SoSyM encompasses several communities involving modeling languages and techniques, such as Model-Driven Engineering, Modeling and Simulation, or Data Engineering.

2024 has been highly productive, marked by the publication of numerous new SoSyM papers, the creation of a new SoSyM section dedicated to modeling tools, and the addition of new editors to our community. Some of the highlights: 💎 We bid farewell to two esteemed editors: Antonio Vallecillo and Connie Heitmeyer. Thanks for your continuous and outstanding support over the years! 🫶 💎 We introduced a new section dedicated to modeling tools: Thanks to our long-time SoSyM Editor, Jordi Cabot and our newest Editor, Abel Gómez, in leading this new tool paper focus area! 👏 💎Judith Michael is our new Editor in charge of social media for SoSyM 🎉 💎Our Associate Editor-in-Chief, Marsha Chechik, was named an ACM Fellow. Congratulations! 🥳 Find some details about our 2024 statistics in the slideshow.

I am happy to share that our new paper "A study on the impact of the level of participation in enterprise modeling", led by Anne Gutschmidt and co-authored with Monique Snoeck, is published in the International Journal on Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM).
Happy to announce that the paper "A study on the impact of the level of participation in enterprise modeling" In this research led by Anne Gutschmidt, and co-authored with Charlotte Verbruggen, we investigated the effects of three settings with different levels of involving domain experts: an overall model was created (1) from individual interviews, (2) from individual models, or (3) in a joint meeting of domain and modeling consultants. The results show that the non-participatory interview setting led to less favorable appraisals. The findings should help practitioners in weighing possible benefits of participatory enterprise modeling against the organizational effort and monetary cost it involves. https://lnkd.in/edqVpDqh

🎉We are happy to share that our latest research, "𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀" by Alvaro Miyazawa, et al., has been published in Software and Systems Modeling! 🎉 🔎 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁? Simulation is widely used in robotics, but challenges such as high development costs and lack of standardisation limit its usability. In this paper, we introduce RoboSim p-models, a diagrammatic, tool-independent domain-specific language for specifying physical models of robotic platforms and how they relate to RoboSim d-models, which account for software models. 🛠 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: ✅ A modular and extensible diagrammatic notation for explicitly specifying physical behaviours ✅ Validation rules to ensure well-formed models ✅ Model-to-model transformation to make RoboSim compatible with multiple simulators ✅ Formal mathematical semantics for reasoning about robotic systems 📌 This work extends our previous research on RoboSim by introducing block diagrams to describe physical models. These are linked to platform-independent control software models, enabling the automatic generation of simulations and mathematical models based on differential equations. 📖 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 International Journal on Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM): https://lnkd.in/eyzk_V2A. We look forward to discussions with the community on this exciting development! #Robotics #Simulation #Modeling #SoftwareEngineering #UML #SysML #RoboSim #Research #AutonomousSystems #FormalMethods #CyberPhysicalSystems

❓Is it possible to model software #fairness? That’s what we did in our latest work published at the International Journal on Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM) 🎉 In this paper, we present #MODNESS: a model-driven framework to support the whole fairness assessment process through a dedicated Domain Specific Language ⚖️ We show how #MODNESS is able to cover several fairness assessment use cases, even less common ones like recommendation systems, overcoming existing baselines. A big thanks to my co-authors Claudio Di Sipio Antinisca Di Marco and Davide Di Ruscio for this great result! 🎉 The paper is available here https://lnkd.in/e3PAT3Ri SWEN research group #fairness #bias #software #mde #dsl
