Our CEO Shalimar Gonzales recently spoke with The Seattle Medium about how economic pressures can turn one financial setback into a long-term crisis, and how Solid Ground works to meet people where they are. "Either their car broke down and they can’t get to work, and all they need is somebody to help them repair their car,” said Gonzales. “Helping before those small things snowball into seismic things is the work that we try to do." https://lnkd.in/gdDkNxqN

Solid Ground envisions a community beyond poverty and oppression where all people have equitable opportunity to thrive.
About us
Solid Ground combines direct services with advocacy to meet basic needs, nurture success, and spread change. We believe communities are stronger when we support stability and break down the barriers to overcoming poverty. Through 20+ programs, people gain stability and build skills that equip them to move forward in their lives. We work toward ending racism and other oppressions embedded in our institutions, policies, and culture that hold people back from succeeding. By amplifying the voices of people experiencing poverty throughout the political process, we further social justice and support our entire community in reaching its fullest potential. Each year more than 65,000 King County residents engage with Solid Ground to address their urgent food, housing & transportation needs, while changing the institutional practices & policies that perpetuate poverty.

This is going to be such an important conversation about queer Black women in leadership, moderated by Solid Ground's Community Policy & Engagement Manager – and just in time for Pride Month🤩
Hi everyone! Coming into Pride Month, I’m extremely honored to announce that my first time moderating a discussion panel will be alongside such amazing Black queer women in leadership across the Greater Seattle area. “Beyond the Rainbow”: A Community Conversation Uplifting Black Queer Women in Leadership, will take place on June 15th, from 6-8pm at Byrd Barr Place, in Seattle. Pride is not only a celebration—it is also a space for conversation, visibility, protection, and collective responsibility for communities facing intersectional systemic oppression. Hosted by NAACP-AOW, Converge Media LLC, and Byrd Barr Place, with support from Statewide Poverty Action Network and Solid Ground, this conversation will center Black LGBTQ+ women leading through advocacy, policy, organizing, storytelling, and community care—while exploring how we can better protect, affirm, and support their leadership. Hope to see you there! I’m especially excited to be joined by an incredible panel: • Joy Hollingsworth • Dionne Foster • Jaelynn Scott • Dominique Stephens #PrideMonth #BlackQueerLeadership #LGBTQ #Seattle #CommunityLeadership #Equity #BlackExcellence #KingCounty RSVP using this link: https://lnkd.in/gMAMvgQZ

Solid Ground reposted this
Since the Solid Ground Gala, I’ve been reflecting on what it means to push ourselves to be poverty abolitionists. Abolitionists have always been people willing to challenge systems that normalize suffering and protect privilege. Poverty is often treated as inevitable, but it isn’t. The real time safety net work we do is the direct result of policy choices: the lack of affordable housing, the absence of a livable minimum wage, and a healthcare system that prioritizes profit over people. This is a long fight and the 300+ in that room 2 weeks ago came ready to support.
Lingering in the glow of the Groundswell Gala✨ The energy y’all brought was undeniable – the feeling of hope, possibility, and solidarity absolutely filled the room. Because of our amazing community, we raised more than $300,000 to create opportunities for everyone to thrive – building momentum toward our shared goal of not just solving poverty, but abolishing it. Thank you to our guests, sponsors, volunteers, staff, and every other person who made the night full of joy and hope 🥹 A special thanks to: Sasha Summer Cousineau Party Hat LLC Youth in Focus Goody Bagg Synchronicity Events Connor Mac Studios CreativeLou Photos by Danny Ngan
