Tariffs on steel and aluminum could do more than just curb imports — they might also put the brakes on construction activity. Contractors are likely to feel the squeeze within months if the tariffs take effect in March, Julie Workman, partner at Saul Ewing LLP, told Construction Dive. “It’ll be relatively immediate,” said Workman. “Given that the tariffs are presumably going into effect within the next month, I think that those prices are going to start going up very quickly, certainly by the summer.” Read the full article here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eDefcDT3 #Tariffs #Contractors #Construction #Developers

The construction industry is bracing for significant challenges stemming from trade tariffs and tighter immigration policies. Trade tariffs could lead to inflation and recession, as has happened historically with tariffs. This could have significant impacts on the construction industry, affecting both costs and demand, Partner Lisa Colon told Miami Today Newspaper. “The tariffs on materials imported from Canada and Mexico could disrupt the supply chain and lead to further increases in material costs,” she said, “which are already high due to other factors like natural disasters. This could make construction projects more expensive.” “The key is to build agility and resilience across all aspects of the business to adapt quickly to the unpredictable nature of the construction industry.” Read the full article here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dMeG-Eme #Tariffs #ConstructionIndustry

The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), enacted in 2021, mandates that companies disclose their true ownership to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to combat illicit financial activities. However, its implementation has faced legal challenges, leading to injunctions that have temporarily halted its enforcement. On February 18, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas lifted a prior injunction, reinstating the CTA’s beneficial ownership reporting requirements. In response, FinCEN has extended the reporting deadline for most companies to allow additional time for compliance. Peter Murphy details this development in this alert ➡️ https://lnkd.in/erhzyXkB #CTA #CorporateTransparencyAct
