🐾💙 Last week, SMH-Sarasota received a PAWsitively special visit from Dogs Inc puppies in training! It was a training day like no other, as the pups explored various hospital environments and helped melt away the stress of the day for 160+ members of #TeamSMH, one tail wag at a time! 💬 “The puppies’ visit totally made my day,” said Patient Intake Coordinator Linda Schubert. A heartfelt thank you to Dogs Inc and the puppy raisers for bringing smiles and joy to our healthcare heroes!

About us
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a regional referral center offering Southwest Florida’s greatest breadth and depth of care, with more than 2,500 medical staff and more than 1.7 patient visits across its two hospital campuses, freestanding ER, and network of outpatient care centers. Its flagship 897-bed Sarasota hospital has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best, with superior patient outcomes and a comprehensive network of services. In 2021, the public health system opened its second acute-care hospital, SMH-Venice, with 212 beds and full range of specialties to serve south Sarasota County. As the region's only public health system – and only not-for-profit – it also serves as a critical safety net for the uninsured and underinsured in Sarasota County.

🎉👏 Congrats to Dilip J. Mathew, MD, electrophysiologist at SMH, for implanting the 100th AVEIR DR dual-chamber leadless pacemaker at SMH-Venice for people with slow and irregular heart rhythms! Between both SMH campuses, the health system has completed over 200 implants. In 2022, SMH was among a select group of world-class heart institutions to participate in an international clinical trial testing Abbott's AVEIR DR. This groundbreaking system offers both atrial and ventricular pacing, beat-to-beat synchrony, an upgradeable design, long-term retrieval, and pre-fixation mapping. MANY thanks to Dr. Dilip Mathew, Dr. Martin Espinosa Ginic, and Dr. Robert Eckart for bringing this leading-edge treatment option to our community! 🔗SMH.com/heart

❤️🩹 SMH cardiac surgeons are saving lives by utilizing the Florida Sleeve, a procedure designed to offer faster and safer treatment for potentially deadly aortic root aneurysms. Bradenton's Steve Ware, who lived with an aortic root aneurysm for 20 years, turned to SMH's heart team when he also developed a mitral valve disorder. Cardiothoracic surgeons Jeffrey Sell, MD, and Kristen Walker, MD, performed a joint operation to repair both valves and deployed a Florida Sleeve to treat his aneurysm before it turned deadly. 👏👏 Congrats to the SMH Heart team! Recently, SMH completed its 100th procedure with the Medtronic Affera Mapping and Ablation System with Sphere-9 Catheter, making SMH the first in the nation to reach this medical milestone. Affera combines heart mapping, pulsed field and radiofrequency ablation all in one procedure. The simultaneous procedures offer significant benefits for atrial fibrillation patients, allowing our electrophysiology physicians to perform three equally vital treatments in a single cardiac catheterization. Thanks to Dr. Anthonio Moretta, Dr. Dilip Mathew, Dr. Martin Espinosa Ginic, Dr. Brian Betensky and Dr. Rajesh Malik for advancing this technology at SMH. 🔗SMH.com/heart
