When Tropical Storm Arthur caused devastating floods across Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, Zachary fought alongside his 80-year-old father-in-law, Rodney, all through the night to help him save his home. “The water was coming in faster than we could pump it out, and it was seeping through the walls and the ground," Zachary said. As the water rose around them, the men opened windows and assembled a pipe system to pump water outside. “We sat in the living room in knee-deep water,” Zachary explained. All night long, they watched helplessly as the waters rushed into his home of 58 years. The needs in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana are historic. More than 400 homes were affected by the flooding. Some areas of the community received over 30 inches of rain, and many homes like Rodney’s, needed a complete overhaul. Despite the destruction, Rodney managed to save a few priceless items, such as his father’s World War II memorabilia— including dog tags and the Bible he carried in his pocket as he came under fire on Omaha Beach in 1944. For Zachary and Rodney, Samaritan’s Purse has brought great hope during overwhelming loss, reminding him and his father-in-law that they do not have to walk alone. “I appreciate so much what y’all are doing,” Zachary said. “It’s a Godsend.” Join us in serving in Jesus' Name in both Louisiana and Mississippi at spvolunteer.org

It's about more than bringing aid. Our disaster response teams bring a listening ear and the news of the God who loves us so much that He came in human form, endured death, and personally felt the gut-wrenching pain of grief. Jesus doesn't promise to shield us from heartbreak, but He is with us in our suffering. He can empathize and comfort us in moments like this and promises an eternal life where there are no more tears. "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4 🙏 Please pray for the thousands of Venezuelans waiting for answers, for those grieving, and for those searching for a hope to cling to.

Updates from Venezuela 🇻🇪 Our 2nd airlift of relief supplies on board the 767 arrived in Venezuela today. Between the two flights, we have sent more than 196,000 pounds of critical supplies, including our Emergency Field Hospital, solar lights, jerry cans, blankets, hygiene kits, and water filtration systems. Our team in Venezuela is hard at work constructing the Emergency Field Hospital. Many hospitals and clinics were damaged, and they are overwhelmed with patients. We will soon be able to provide emergency medical care to people who are suffering. Please pray for our staff as they prepare to receive patients and for the thousands affected by these devastating earthquakes.
