Here's what we know: (with the great Giulio Piovaccari) Per a source familiar, the board felt Tavares was trying to save his reputation with short-term actions that might not help the automaker in the longer-term. This led to his abrupt departure, and the CEO limbo we're expected to have until H1 2025 when a replacement is announced. It's been quite a rollercoaster for Tavares, who was previously regarded as one of the most respected executives in the auto industry. His approach came under scrutiny after slumping sales in North American led the automaker in September to issue a profit warning on its 2024 results. Chairman John Elkann will lead a new interim executive committee. Jeff Laethem, who owns a Stellantis dealership in Detroit, said he was relieved at the news of Tavares’ resignation.
