Cedric Hughes spoke to Rhode Island State representatives last week about a bill that would fund a study on Seagliders, a critical step toward realizing the benefits the craft could bring and establishing the Ocean State as the leader of the Blue Economy. The case for Seagliders is straightforward. A Seaglider fleet operating in Rhode Island could generate over $100 million in annual economic impact and create up to 400 high-paying jobs in operations, maintenance, infrastructure, and support services. REGENT already has 100+ employees in Rhode Island, a 255,000 sq ft manufacturing facility opening this year at Quonset, and plans to grow to 700+ jobs over the next decade. The foundation is here; and the industry is forming around it. Let’s go! Building the future of maritime mobility.
About us
REGENT's mission is to drastically reduce the cost and headache of regional transportation between coastal destinations. We create Seaglider vessels, wing-in-ground-effect craft that fly just above the water's surface and couple the high speed of airplanes with the convenience of boats, all at the low cost of an all-electric system. The 12-passenger Viceroy Seaglider model will service routes up to 180 miles at 180 mph with existing battery technology, and routes up to 400 miles with next-gen batteries, all via existing dock infrastructure. Backed by the same investors who support SpaceX, Anduril, and Archer Aviation, our team of passionate, forward-thinking builders combines the best of aerospace and maritime expertise to turn zero-emission, high-speed coastal travel into reality.

NPR just published a story about Provincetown, MA, a coastal community at the tip of Cape Cod where the choice is either a 5-hour drive to Boston or a 20-minute flight that simply doesn't exist off-season due to high operating economics. It's a story that plays out in coastal and island communities across the country and across the world. Airlines are too expensive or simply don't operate at all, and ferries are too slow. This is exactly the problem Seagliders are built to solve. A practical, fast, and affordable transportation solution that can provide year-round connectivity for communities that sit on the water. https://lnkd.in/eQP8Ghmp #seaglider REGENT #regionalmobility

REGENT's seagliders are the kind of next-gen shipbuilding that's expanding what the maritime industrial base looks like. I asked Tom Huntley, General Manager of REGENT Defense, how states can play a role. Before REGENT, Huntley oversaw shipbuilding programs for the U.S. Coast Guard and worked on the House Appropriations Committee staff. "It's somewhat of an old playbook with a new model," he told Standard & Works States need the education pathways, the incentives, the direct investment, he says. But they also need "the jobs for families, the school bus routes, the infrastructure to bring those people in." Rhode Island has built all of this. It's a big part of why REGENT is there – and why the future of shipbuilding is taking shape in places like it. We spoke with Huntley at Ken Biberaj ☕️'s #CoffeeWithKenSummit. 🎬 Watch full conversation: https://lnkd.in/eMRs8pm6

Hydrofoiling is what sets Seagliders apart from any other craft that’s taken off from the water. Billy Thalheimer explains why this mode is critical. #floatfoilfly #seaglider #innovation #infocus #explained

REGENT Defense is headed to Honolulu for LANPAC 2026. The Indo-Pacific is a maritime theater fought from islands. Every commander talks about the same problem: How do you move people, casualties, special operators, and critical cargo across hundreds of miles of contested water without burning runways, fuel, or aircraft you cannot afford to lose? REGENT Seagliders, Squire and Viceroy, were built for that gap. Wing-in-ground effect. Hybrid-electric. No runway. We operate from any protected harbor or coastline. 160 knots. If you are working theater logistics, distributed maritime operations, special operations, MEDEVAC at a distance, or contested resupply, find me at LANPAC May 11 to 14. I want to hear what is keeping you up at night, and show you what a defense-variant Seaglider does for it. DM me to connect on the ground. #LANPAC2026 #IndoPacific #DefenseInnovation #Seaglider #REGENTCraft #ContestedLogistics Headed to Honolulu for LANPAC 2026.

CoMotion in Miami is always a great opportunity to showcase REGENT Seagliders! Special thanks to my fellow panelist, Neill Etheridge, and to Matthew W. Daus for hosting!
CoMotion on the Ocean - Are Electric Ferries and Seacraft Coming to a Waterfront Near You?! It was a pleasure moderating the panel “CoMotion on the Water: Unlocking Urban Waterways for Passenger & Freight Mobility” at CoMotion Miami 2026 alongside Neill Etheridge of The Twenty Five and Adam A. Triolo of REGENT. https://lnkd.in/e7gMWG4J Our discussion explored how electric hydrofoil and “seaglider” technologies could help cities better utilize underused waterways for cleaner, quieter, and more efficient passenger and freight transportation. We covered key issues, including Coast Guard regulation and certification, infrastructure readiness, affordability, charging interoperability, public acceptance, and the role maritime mobility can play in reducing congestion and emissions. As cities continue advancing multimodal transportation strategies, water-based mobility presents exciting opportunities to expand connectivity while supporting sustainability and resilience goals. #CoMotionMiami #UrbanMobility #MaritimeMobility #TransportationInnovation #Sustainability #MultimodalTransportation #ElectricMobility #Hydrofoil #MobilityInnovation #SmartCities
