“Where others see challenges, I see opportunities. This is what makes me rare.” Meet Brady Chan, 14, who lives with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disease affecting the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system and voluntary muscle movement. His mom, Mimi, global market development marketing manager, shares how the proverb of “it takes a village” took on greater meaning once Brady was diagnosed. “Moving from the patient side to the research side at Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced me to the dedicated village working to change the lives of those with rare diseases,” Mimi said. “Through my work, I hope my son sees the passion my colleagues and I share in building a future where rare diseases no longer limit anyone’s quality of life – and that this continues to drive his hope for a brighter future.” Learn more about our commitment to rare disease research. » https://bit.ly/4bmDTx1 #RareDiseaseDay #ShareYourColors #ShareYourColours

The Sustainable Markets Initiative's Health Systems Task Force released an Open Letter, signed by the CEOs of seven global health care companies, calling on members of the clinical trial community to support efforts to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from clinical trials. We are uniquely positioned to meet or exceed this calling, and we encourage the pharmaceutical industry and biotech community to join our efforts to measure and reduce the emissions of clinical trial activities. We have made significant investments in our data capabilities to measure the emissions of clinical trial activities, and we also offer our customers decarbonization options, such as sustainable aviation fuel for shipping, electric vehicle patient travel, data-driven opportunities for waste reduction and more. Thermo Fisher Scientific supports the urgent calls for action from scientists around the world to address climate change and has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Rose Blackburne, MD, MBA joined industry peers for a panel discussion on advancing treatments for pediatric patients during J.P. Morgan Healthcare week in San Francisco. Here are 4️⃣ vital takeaways: 📋 Regulatory initiatives spur pediatric drug and device development — for instance, the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA) requires developers to conduct separate, dedicated studies for children. This has led to a significant increase in the number of pediatric clinical trials, resulting in new approvals and expanded therapies and labels for children. 📈 Investing in neonatal and pediatric products is life-changing for patients and families, impacting patients' quality and length of life. 📱 Using innovative, digital technologies (e-consents, wearables, digital diaries, home visits, etc.) to conduct decentralized trials expands access to clinical trials for pediatric patients by decreasing the logistical burdens of trial participation for the patient and their patients/caregivers. 😷 Children are being impacted by diseases other than childhood diseases - obesity, asthma, neurologic disorders, rare diseases — all of which expand the opportunity to develop pediatric treatments.
