Join us on Saturday, March 22nd, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM for an LGBTQ+ Volunteer Day at the Novato Baylands! Volunteers will contribute to the restoration of the Novato Baylands, a mosaic of tidal marsh, seasonal wetland, and upland habitat near San Pablo Bay. Activities will include planting native plants, mulching, and weeding. Volunteers will learn how their efforts will increase biodiversity, benefit wildlife and local communities, and make the landscape more resilient to climate change. P.S. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to do some birdwatching! This event is hosted by Save the Bay, Point Blue Conservation Science, & TurnOut. About us
Point Blue Conservation Science (Point Blue) is dedicated to conserving birds, other wildlife, and ecosystems through innovative scientific research, restoration, outreach and extensive partnerships. Our highest priority is to reduce the impacts of habitat alteration, climate change and other threats to wildlife and people, while promoting adaptation to the changes ahead.. Point Blue is a non-profit organization founded in 1965 as Point Reyes Bird Observatory. Point Blue is a leader in bird and ecosystem research, conservation management support, habitat restoration, conservation education, and conservation training. Point Blue primarily researches birds due to their role as excellent indicators of environmental health, but we also study other species and all of our work is in an applied ecosystem context. Point Blue is headquartered in Petaluma, California and maintains field research sites throughout California, other parts of Western North America, and Antarctica.

🌿 🐦 🦇 Science in Action! We’re partnering with the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) on an exciting habitat restoration project to support wildlife! With funding from the Wildlife Conservation Board, this initiative will bring 140 bat boxes, bird nest boxes, and raptor perches to private lands across Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties—enhancing wildlife habitat while engaging local landowners in conservation. Since early 2024, our team has been working with CARCD to develop habitat assessment and structure suitability protocols. Now, we’re helping to establish a monitoring system to track how these structures support local bat and bird populations. 🌾🐦 In case you missed it! Inside Climate News reported on BirdReturns, an innovative conservation program in the Central Valley. Along with being a vital agricultural hub for food production, the Central Valley is a lifeline for birds traveling along the Pacific Flyway. Thanks to a program called BirdReturns, agriculture is now helping these avian travelers. It's part of the Migratory Bird Conservation Partnership between The Nature Conservancy, Audubon California, and Point Blue Conservation Science and incentivizes Central Valley farmers to adopt practices that support birds' feeding and resting needs at key times during their impressive annual migration. This unique conservation model balances the needs of birds, farmers, and local communities in the Central Valley, proving that agriculture and conservation can work hand in hand. 🎉👏 Congratulations to Autumn Iverson, Ph.D., for receiving the Central Valley Joint Venture Special Recognition Award! 👏🎉 Autumn, Senior Avian Ecologist with the Pacific Coast and Central Valley Groups at Point Blue, received this award for her dedicated work on the CVJV Science and Knowledge Needs Plan for 2024-2034. She led an in-depth review of past studies, took an honest look at the present, and mapped out a plan to meet the emerging needs of the future. The result? A comprehensive guide that will shape research and monitoring efforts across the entire CVJV area of operations for years to come. Thank you, Autumn, for your incredible work and leadership! 👏🐦📚 Read more about Autumn's work! 🔗 👉 https://buff.ly/4hLLJTn #scienceinaction #cvjv #centralvalleyjointventure

Thank you, Bay News Matters for the incredible feature on our work at Palomarin Field Station! 🙌🐦 For nearly 60 years, Point Blue scientists—dubbed modern-day bird seers—have been banding birds, collecting data, and tracking population shifts. This long-term research offers critical insights into our changing environment, with birds serving as early indicators of climate shifts and habitat loss. In addition to being a hub for conservation, Palomarin is also a community resource and a training ground for early career scientists. 🔬 Read more 👉 https://buff.ly/3CMAomV 📸: Charles Versaggi via Bay City News #PointBlueConservationScience #PalomarinFieldStation #Conservation
