In this pivot, they failed at first due to an EDR system, so they found an open IP webcam. Akira was able to compromise the webcam through an existing vulnerability that had been left unpatched. Some organizations deploy tens of thousands of IP cameras. Without automated, remote processes for hardening and remediation, upgrading and maintaining the firmware on those cameras will take... many resources.
