We were chosen from a group of 220 startups around the world who are finding creative solutions to unique coastal problems. The Coastal Innovation Challenge will provide pilot funding and comprehensive support that will enable us to validate and scale our modular water farms. Last week, we announced our Series A funding of $11 million from investors like Kubota Corporation, Jon Hemingway, and Charles McGarraugh. We’ve already begun to scale our next-generation deep-sea water farm solution. With this momentum, we’re excited to see what the rest of 2024 holds. Today, OceanWell is proud to announce we’ve secured $11 million in Series A funding to scale our next-generation modular deep-sea water farm solution and launch California's first pilot with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District. With the U.S. facing increasingly severe droughts and water demand projected to exceed supply by 40% by 2030, new desalination solutions are more critical than ever. Our modular water farms harness natural ocean pressure at 400m depths to produce 1 million gallons of fresh water daily per pod, using 40% less energy and protecting marine life. Last week, our Chief Business Officer Jonathan Haswell, was invited to join the Enabling Innovation for Water Security and Climate Resilience Roundtable at the The White House. It was an excellent opportunity to sit down with business and government leaders to discuss how we can make water conservation and security a bigger priority at the federal level. Water is an emerging theme for American national defense - not just for drinking, but in its use for onshoring chip fabrication, supporting data centers, and enabling the expansion of AI. For many, water is on its way to becoming a major initiative on par with the clean energy transition and carbon reduction efforts. At OceanWell, we’re committed to scaling our deep-sea water farm technology that can provide affordable, abundant fresh water to meet the needs of our growing economy and changing climate. Thank you to the Executive Office of the President and the Environmental Policy Innovation Center for making this conversation happen.
