Preprint research describes flat cell imaging – a #LiveCellImagiing approach for capturing 3D cellular dynamics in a small focal volume by squishing them to a thickness of ~200 nm between a pair of coated coverslips. The authors write that flat cell imaging can effectively provide up to ~9X expansion in 2D and demonstrate that cell viability and phenotype is generally restored after release for several tested cell types. New review article from Christophe Leterrier and Ciarán Butler-Hallissey compares a diversity of #SuperResolution #Microscopy techniques for imaging the cytoskeleton of neurons! Structured illumination #SIM, localization microscopy #SMLM, #STED, expansion microscopy #ExM, and MINFLUX are evaluated. The authors note the usefulness of super-resolution for imaging the neuronal cytoskeleton, but also on-going challenges in the arena of sample preparation. See how the Nikon AX / AX R #Confocal #Microscopy system with #SuperResolution #NSPARC detector can capture the process of autophagosome formation in our new #AppNote! #Autophagy is a critical degradation pathway in eukaryotes, with dysfunction having been linked with cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Autophagosomes are dynamic and only ~1 µm in diameter, making detailed imaging difficult. The NSPARC provides improved resolution and high sensitivity, making it a great choice for 3D #LiveCellImaging.
