Creating a healthier future for all children #WellBeyondMedicine

About us

Nemours is committed to improving the health of children. As a non-profit children’s health organization, we consider the health of every child to be a sacred trust. Through family-centered care in our children’s hospitals and clinics in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida, as well as world-changing research, education and advocacy, Nemours fulfills the promise of a healthier tomorrow for all children — even those who may never enter our doors. Nemours began more than 80 years ago with the vision of Alfred I. duPont to improve the lives of children and to do whatever it takes to prevent and treat even the most disabling childhood conditions. Today, through our children’s hospitals and health system, we directly care for 250,000 children annually in Delaware Valley and Florida, including families who travel from across the country and world to see our specialists — treating every child as we would our own. We also reach beyond the walls of our hospitals and clinics to be a voice for children on a national and international level, and to lead the way in prevention, intervention, education, and research. Nemours is growing to better serve the children and families in our care. We have 1.1 million square feet of space currently devoted to providing children’s healthcare or under construction, all designed with significant input and advice from our patients and families.

We are proud to announce the expansion of our partnership with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their official pediatric partner. Over the next three years, Nemours Children’s Health and the Jaguars will launch the first-ever Jaguars Kids Club, offering exclusive access and events for young fans. We’re also thrilled to have Brian Thomas Jr. and Maason Smith join us as our inaugural NFL brand ambassadors, supporting our mission to improve children's lives on and off the field. Today, the Jaguars had the honor of meeting Elena, who is being treated for leukemia at Nemours. Her mom, Natalie, shared their inspiring story – she’s been cancer free for 17 years after being treated for leukemia at Nemours as a child! This partnership is a testament to our shared mission of making a positive impact in the lives of children like Elena. I just heard an incredible story. One of our primary care offices got a call that an unhoused person was sleeping in the building’s stairwell. A Nemours associate went to check on the person, only to discover a sleeping child. The boy shared some of the family’s struggles: They were living in a shelter, and he was being bullied at school. Afraid to go to school but unable to stay alone in the shelter, mom had brought him to the building where she worked and told him to stay out of sight. Enter a Nemours care coordinator, who spoke with mom and learned that the child did not have a doctor, lacked sufficient warm clothing, and struggled with transportation to school in addition to the bullying. In less than a week, the care coordinator: ·      Set up a primary care well visit and a mental health appointment for the boy ·      Obtained clothing donations for him ·      Connected mom with non-profits specializing in housing and food ·      Enrolled the boy at one of Nemours School Based Health Centers, so he can get care at school in the future ·      Arranged for mom to meet with the school principal to discuss the bullying and transportation problems. Both appreciative and astonished, mom didn’t know a doctor’s office could do all that. Nemours Children’s has spent years building out these services in the Delaware Valley, because health is so much more than just medical care. We plan to grow and expand these kinds of services in the coming years. That is Whole Child Health in action.

  • 🎉 Join us in celebrating Seth! Three years cancer-free! 🎉 Diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at just three years old, Seth faced many surgeries, chemotherapy, and over a year of treatment at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. But through it all, his care team made sure he felt like a kid—playing games, building snowmen, and cheering him on. Today, he’s thriving, three years cancer-free, and never misses a chance to visit his Nemours family. "71% of women who have played sports have gone on to hold formal leadership roles," shares Danette Leighton, CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF). Sports are not only about competition – they're about building confidence, resilience, and leadership. That’s one reason why WSF has sponsored National Girls & Women in Sports Day for decades. Through initiatives like Sports 4 Life, WSF is breaking down barriers and advocating for equitable access for all girls to athletic opportunities, especially for underserved communities. By promoting policies, funding, and resources, WSF is empowering girls and women to lead both on and off the field. • Exciting news! 🎉 Huge thanks to CSX for their $250,000 donation to Nemours Children's Health! This gift expands access to vital pediatric behavioral health services for underinsured kids across North Florida, especially those facing barriers to care. It supports our Pediatric Acute Telemental Health (PATH) program, providing quick access to telemental health visits for children ages 2-17 struggling with issues like ADHD, anxiety, and depression. With wait times for traditional care often exceeding six months, PATH connects families with providers within a week. Thank you again, CSX, for investing in our children's mental health! • Children’s hospitals are facing serious challenges with workforce shortages impacting the field of pediatrics, especially in areas like mental health and neurology. It is more important than ever for Congress to support programs that help grow the pediatric health care workforce. Last week, we advocated for increased federal support for programs that help us train the next generation of pediatric providers to serve our patients and communities! • Empowering our youth with lifesaving skills! Recently, students at Boone High School had a unique opportunity to learn hands-only CPR with Mayor Dyer, Dr. Peace Madueme, and the Orange County Fire Department. Essential skills like checking for vitals and performing chest compressions could one day save a life! Because 1 in 4 people will need to perform CPR, we're proud to support initiatives that ensure the health of our community goes well beyond medicine.

Mary Ann Woodruff, MD, FAAP, Pediatrics Northwest, and Joseph Le Roy, LICSW, LICSW, HopeSparks Family Services, join us for part two of our series featuring Whole Child Health Alliance members. Together, they share insights into their integrated care model, which brings mental health support directly into pediatric primary care with a focus on prevention and early intervention. Through universal screening and equity-focused telehealth, their approach effectively addresses children’s mental health needs. By prioritizing whole child health, this model has the potential to transform outcomes for kids and families, early on.
