About us
Along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay is the United States' first civilian aeronautics research laboratory. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics established the Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton, Virginia, in 1917. At the dawn of the Space Age in 1958, the lab became NASA Langley Research Center. Langley's work lays the foundation for the nation's future in aerospace and science by helping to advance NASA's goals.

Congratulations to the SCALPSS team on successfully imaging the Moon landing of Firefly’s Blue Ghost lunar lander! 🚀🌔 As NASA and its commercial partners increase travel to the Moon it is important to understand the effects of lunar landings on their immediate surroundings. The six cameras on SCALPSS 1.1 took images before, during, and after Blue Ghost’s plume-surface interaction which will allow the team to compare before-and-after images of the surface.

Continuing a legacy ✈️ From the very beginning, Langley has been a place of wonder and not long after the founding of the NACA on this day 110 years ago, Langley became its first laboratory. Since then, we’ve carried with us generations of innovation that have forever changed the way we fly and explore space. Watch: youtu.be/9zSu856uQAU
