Strategizing in the strategy room! (Most of) The MultiCare Health System Ambulatory Professional Development Team hard at work!
MultiCare’s roots in the Pacific Northwest go back to 1882, with the founding of Tacoma’s first hospital. Over the years, we’ve grown from a Tacoma-centric, hospital-based organization into the largest, community-based, locally governed health system in the state of Washington. Today, our comprehensive system of health includes more than 300 primary, urgent, pediatric and specialty care locations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon, as well as 13 hospitals. We welcome patients from the entire Pacific Northwest region and our 20,000-plus team members — including employees, providers and volunteers — proudly care for the communities we serve. Without a doubt, our organization has changed over the years. But what has never changed, throughout our long history, has been our dedication to health and wellness of the people of the Pacific Northwest. Guided by our mission, vision and values, we are on continuous journey to deliver the services that our communities need, and to ensure access to those services, now and in the future.

This uterine-sparing, minimally invasive treatment expands access to fibroid care, giving women in Gig Harbor more options and better care. Thank you for your commitment to providing the best care possible to your patients and advocating for women to have more treatment options! Our photo is missing Jacob Meltzer, who has been a keystone in making this possible.
MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital will be opening a new hybrid operating room in March that can convert into a cardiac-catheterization room for patients and will include imaging devices for physicians to provide minimally invasive treatment of cardiac and vascular disease in the same setting. Fundraising for the new hybrid operating room came through MultiCare’s Good Samaritan Foundation. “It’s the community that has supported it, which I think brings everybody in as a team. This is very big for our community, where we can deal with advanced cardiovascular cases, keep it in the community and make sure people have access to it,” said Vinay Malhotra, MD, of MultiCare’s Pulse Heart Institute. MultiCare Health System opened a new clinical and training space this winter to house the Tacoma Family Medicine and OB Access clinics, along with three graduate medical education programs — the Tacoma Family Medicine Residency Program, the Rural Family Medicine with Obstetrics Fellowship and the Omak Rural Training Program. The expanded location on the MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital campus will support increased patient volumes, and the state-of-the-art learning environment will give residents and fellows dedicated work and clinical space. “This investment is about providing the best resources for our residents, fellows and faculty, training the next generation of physicians so they can set their roots here and be part of serving our community in the future,” said Jennifer Knowles, MD, chief academic officer. “As one of the largest clinical training sites in the Pacific Northwest, MultiCare is committed to the growth of graduate medical education programs, and this clinic is a key part of building a sustainable health care workforce for our community.”
