This article struck a real chord with me, as I've recently seen skills and expectations soar on both sides of the tech hiring equation. Meet Andrew Yeung, who's achieved career success at Google and Meta despite struggling in school, not feeling super charismatic, and not launching into the job market with great connections. Andrew explains in his article (link in comments) how he transformed his professional approach with lessons from The Third Door by Alex Banayan. Andrew found creative ways to secure highly-coveted tech jobs, and I’ve noted (and reworded) three specific skills from the article that I think are absolutely essential to achieving outsized success in tech. I've also added a 4th focused on AI that aligns with our perspectives at Mercury. • Get S#!T Done: Execute faster, better, and more efficiently than most! Is your effective productivity consistent, predictable, and efficient? • Selling, Influence, and Relationship Development: Relationships, NOT Money are the Currency of Life! • (Servant) Leadership: Some confuse leadership with getting people to do what you want, but real leaders eat last and build loyalty by developing multiple layers of capacity through Servant Leadership! • AI will let you fly: Companies are focused on integrating AI into their internal processes and product offerings. Are you well-versed in AI? Have you tried out the different AI platforms relevant to your job? With the AI movement only about a year old there is still an opportunity to differentiate yourself with a firm understanding and strategy for using AI, and this will set you apart. What does this all mean? While we’d all probably agree that achieving success in anything requires a combination of having the right mindset, gaining access to and aligning resources, and having the perseverance just not to quit, at the end of the day, AI's ability to balance the scales means you’re now measured more and more by your ability to get things done (execution), sell your ideas/beliefs (relationship development), and build capacity (leadership). These aren't the only components to achieve success, but they might be the most important along the path to professional success.

The true value proposition of blockchain is that anyone, anywhere, can access high-quality financial assets. I had a great conversation yesterday with Remy Blaire on FINTECH.TV about the democratization of finance as one of the biggest opportunities for blockchain and the macro tailwinds driving digital asset adoption. A few key themes: 🔷 Regime change in the U.S., Bitcoin's role as a store of value, and the shift toward alternative assets + AI are setting the stage for accelerated adoption. The narrative has never been stronger. 🔷 Stablecoins are one of the most interesting areas right now. Beyond just market cap growth, it’s about how they’re being built and delivered—and how they’ll redefine financial infrastructure. Great example: Take a look at how Paul FaecksPatrick Lowry, and Hans Walter Behrens are building Plasma, a Bitcoin sidechain that enables zero-free transfers on tether. 🔷 For builders and investors, execution is everything. Institutional adoption is the unlock, but that requires legitimate blockchain technology, regulatory clarity, and real utility beyond speculation. 🔷 Tokenization of RWAs is moving from concept to reality. The ability to democratize access to institutional-grade financial products is a major unlock—one that could reshape global finance. We are super excited about backing builders like Youngro LeeIan EpsteinSarahjon Reilly, and Harlan Peltz in the RWA sector. 🔷 Stablecoins' primary use case isn’t trading—it’s payments. They represent the next evolution of digital payments, with the potential to significantly lower transaction costs for merchants and streamline global commerce. The foundation has been laid. Now it’s about who executes, scales, and integrates into the broader financial system first. Link in comments to watch my full conversation with Remy Blaire. Big thanks to Remy and Fintech TV for the discussion—excited to see how this plays out. #DigitalAssets #Stablecoins #RWAs #Fintech #Blockchain

Who has the AI advantage: mature entrepreneurs or young talent? This recent WSJ article "The Investor Betting on People In Their 50s and 60s—Because Older Is Better" details VC Katerina Stroponiati's unique approach of investing in entrepreneurs aged 50 and above. She believes older founders possess valuable industry experience, extensive networks, and credibility, which can be overlooked in favor of young talent. And that got me thinking about leveraging the wisdom and deep knowledge that come with age in an era where AI is rapidly transforming everything. I've said it before that AI has the potential to level the playing field. In this case, it's not between founders and employees, it's between generations. We all know that Gen Y and Z are full of AI energy and bring a fearless approach to innovation, but mature entrepreneurs can combine AI tools with their extensive experience, relationships, and nuanced understanding of market dynamics. Gen X and older have a chance to identify and capitalize on opportunities that might be overlooked by their younger counterparts. These generations understand the nuances of complex workflows and the soft skills required to navigate relationships, both of which are on the critical path to successful execution within the multi-dimensional world in which we live. I'm sure the tech and the younger generations will catch up, but for now...mature leaders might be the missing link some companies need! What do you think — does AI truly balance the scales between youthful exuberance and seasoned expertise? Does it tilt the advantage toward one group over the other? Do experience and perspective prevail over youthful fearlessness? Thank you Walt Parmer for sharing the article with me and Blair Garrou.
