We delivered the kits to Interfaith Works, which will distribute them to residents of its supportive housing program in Montgomery County. We also gave to Bea Gaddy Family Centers, which serves our neighbors in need in the Baltimore area. We’ve expanded access to outpatient mental health services through a special partnership with Sheppard Pratt Solutions. Lois Jacobs, a peer recovery specialist, highlights the importance of addressing trauma to prevent substance abuse. “When I talk to patients and ask them what caused them to start using drugs, more often than not, it’s due to trauma that they haven’t yet addressed,” Jacobs says. “And to cope, they’ve been self-medicating with drugs and alcohol instead of getting help from trained mental health professionals.
