  • "Chinese Tourists are looking for long-haul adventures once again and are searching for destinations that offer authentic and unique experiences.” This comment was made by Quim Martínez Bosch, Mastercard’s Global Tourism Lead while launching a new initiative ‘The Essence of Seville’ with the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz Ruiz. Taking to the stage at FITUR, the industry-leading tourism fair in Madrid, they shared details of this new partnership which aims to tap into the desire of Chinese tourists to experience art, history and gastronomy. To enable this initiative, Mastercard has brought together the breadth of its tourism value chain. This includes companies like Bank of China and CTrip.com, as well as local and international businesses, artisans, and airlines, to provide Chinese tourists with unique and memorable experiences in Seville. What does this mean for locals and residents? Lesser-known parts of the city have much to offer tourists. By using aggregated and anonymized data to deliver targeted marketing and communications this project aims to spread the positive economic benefits of tourism into areas such as Nervión, La Cartuja, and La Macarena. • In 2025 we are re-launching a series highlighting all of the wonderful people that make up Mastercard for Government. For this week's employee spotlight, we travel to Mumbai to speak with Nishant Gupta, who heads up our micromobility center of excellence. Q: What is your role at Mastercard, how long have you supported the company's work with governments, and what is your background?    A: I’ve been supporting Mastercard’s work with governments for over 5 years, focusing on urban mobility in the AP and EEMEA regions. I collaborate with governments and partners to launch new transportation systems, improve last-mile connectivity, and drive financial inclusion through payment solutions. I’m passionate about increasing adoption, promoting inclusive and sustainable solutions, and fostering partnerships that deliver long-term value. Q: Which project have you been most proud of working on and why?    Launching the first Tap and Ride solution for e-bikes in Finland. This was a significant milestone for Mastercard, introducing a seamless, contactless payment system for shared mobility. Seeing the solution create a more efficient experience for both locals and tourists was incredibly rewarding. It also helped operators become more profitable by streamlining the payment process and reducing customer friction.   Q: Where do you see the greatest opportunity for government innovation?    A: the development of inclusive payment solutions, particularly for the unbanked and underbanked populations. Governments have the potential to play a crucial role in driving financial inclusion by introducing open-loop payment systems that not only enhance existing payment flows but also open up new pathways for those without access to traditional banking services.   By leveraging digital payment solutions and contactless systems, governments can make essential services, such as transportation, healthcare, and social welfare programs, more accessible to everyone.   Q: What is your favorite place you’ve been on vacation?   A: A spontaneous 3-week road trip through Scotland. Driving the iconic NC500 route revealed breathtaking coastal views, rugged landscapes, and charming villages that felt like they were straight out of a storybook.   From exploring Scotland’s historic castles, to visiting the renowned distilleries, where I got to taste exceptional whiskies and uncover the rich history behind them. Random treks through the Highlands added to the magic— discovering serene lochs, and exploring the beauty of the countryside.   Q: Tell us about one priceless memory from your time here at Mastercard.    A: I had the opportunity to attend the Cricket World Cup and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Not only did I get to watch the matches live, but I also had the privilege of holding the actual World Cup trophy. It was a perfect blend of sports, celebration, and Mastercard’s role in bringing such experiences to life. #WeAreMastercard

  • While the health and economic dangers posed by the pandemic have receded, the case for the public sector to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of their payments to citizens has only grown stronger. According to World Bank estimates over 1/4 of the adult population globally receive some form of payment from government. This pressure on the public purse has intensified further as governments are tasked to deliver more with less while citizen scrutiny of public sector proficiency is on the rise. Read our latest report about what action the public sector can take to address this complex issue through the digitalization of government-to-person payments: https://lnkd.in/ghbWCgzC
