“ ‘It is time to make energy great again,’ [ADNOC Group CEO Dr. Sultan Al Jaber] told the world's largest annual gathering of energy executives in Houston, mirroring the Make America Great Again slogan of U.S. President Donald Trump. “ ‘Over the next few months and foreseeable future you will see very large and significant investment by XRG in the United States,’ he said. “XRG would invest throughout the gas supply chain, from exploration and development through distribution, and wanted to be a one-stop shop for gas, he said.” #energy #energyindustry #oilgas #oilandgas #natgas #naturalgas #hydrocarbons #shale #shalegas #LNG https://lnkd.in/g94yTPbD

"The notoriously volatile price of US natural gas futures has been zigzagging higher since mid-2024 and overnight spiked to over $4.80 per million Btu, and currently trades at $4.52 per million Btu, up by 140% from a year ago. "Nearly 43% of electricity in the US was generated by natural-gas-fired power plants in 2024. Natural gas is widely used for heating by residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Fertilizer makers use natural gas as feedstock. Natural gas is used as fuel for city buses, drayage trucks, garbage trucks, etc. And the US has been investing in a massive export boom of natural gas, with exporters taking up 19% of US production last year." "NextEra Energy, Inc. expects a 55% jump in power demand over the next 20 years versus the prior two decades, Chief Executive Officer John Ketchum told attendees at the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston on Monday. Some 17% of that demand growth is expected to come from the boom in artificial intelligence, which is spurring demand for power-hungry data centers . . 'We're going to need it all. We're going to need renewables. We're going to need gas. We're going to need nuclear,' Ketchum said." #energy #energyindustry #electricity #power #renewables #oilgas #oilandgas #natgas #naturalgas #nuclearenergy https://lnkd.in/dA9N-Jns

“Because of the popularity of this post, [Mercer Capital] revisit[s] it this week. Originally published in 2019, this post is as a guide for mineral owners who are seeking to learn more about what they own. “As we’ve discussed, there are plenty of factors to consider when determining the value of mineral interests. While some mineral owners may be very well attuned to decline curves and local pricing dynamics, others may only casually monitor the price of oil and gas to get a general sense of the trend in the industry. This post is geared towards those mineral interest owners who have less knowledge on the subject and should serve as a guide for those seeking to learn more about what they own. “We frequently receive calls from mineral interest owners who know little about what they own other than the operator’s name on the check and the amount they receive each month. Besides just the amount paid by the operator, royalty checks provide valuable information to mineral owners that can help determine the value of their minerals.” #energy #energyindustry #oil #oilindustry #oilgas #oilandgas #natgas #naturalgas #shake #shakeoil #shslegas #hydrocarbons #minerals #landman https://lnkd.in/g2QVwy7x

“OPEC+ members produce a combined 35 million bpd, giving them considerable market sway. But supplies outside the group have surged, led by the United States, which is today the world's biggest oil producer. The U.S. pumped 13.2 million bpd in 2024, exceeding Saudi Arabia's production of around 9 million bpd.” h/t Ron Bousso, for Reuters. #energy #energyindustry #oilprice #Brent #WTI #oil #oilindustry #oilgas #oilandgas #natgas #naturalgas #hydrocarbons #OPEC #trade #tradepolicy #tariffs #commodities https://lnkd.in/gBe9mcXM

“Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on Tuesday threw his support behind a vast expansion in geothermal energy. (. . .) “Geothermal’s advocates say that it is particularly well-placed to make that pitch [to facilitate the Republican campaign for “energy dominance’] because it can generate pollution-free power round-the-clock, on-site and on-demand — something in high demand from both military bases and data centers. “Years of lobbying by the industry around the national security case for geothermal have borne fruit — even among the sort of Republican lawmakers prone to throwing shade on solar and wind.” ● “Can Geothermal Become a Major US Energy Source Under Trump?,” Oilprice, 1/27/25 (accompanied by several related links to prior MLR posts): LINK: https://lnkd.in/gTV4zfGC #energy #energyindustry #renewables #renewableenergy #renewablepower #geothermal #geothermalenergy #geothermalpower #energypolicy https://lnkd.in/gnjP6jz6

“OPEC+ has been cutting output by 5.85 million barrels per day, equal to about 5.7% of global supply, agreed in a series of steps since 2022 to support the market. “In December, OPEC+ extended its latest layer of cuts through the first quarter of 2025, pushing back the plan to begin raising output to April. The extension was the latest of several delays last year. “Based on the plan, the gradual unwinding of 2.2 million bpd of cuts - the most recent layer - begins in April with a monthly rise of 138,000 bpd.” ● “Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman reaffirm commitment to market stability on healthier oil market outlook,” OPEC, 3/3/25: LINK: https://lnkd.in/ehE4adra ● “OPEC+ Blinks: First Output Hike Since 2022 Shakes Markets,” OilPrice.com, 3/3/25: “Internal OPEC+ dynamics are rumored to be a little spicy. Saudi Arabia, the ever-cautious market stabilizer, was said last week to be not so thrilled about opening the production floodgates in haste. The UAE, on the other hand, has been itching to boost output and has previously flirted with the idea of quitting the cartel altogether.” LINK: https://lnkd.in/gQdmZ9im ● “Trump exposes OPEC's diminished market power,” Reuters, 3/5/25: “It is true, OPEC+ members produce a combined 35 million bpd, giving them considerable market sway. But supplies outside the group have surged, led by the United States, which is today the world's biggest oil producer. The U.S. pumped 13.2 million bpd in 2024, exceeding Saudi Arabia's production of around 9 million bpd. “Internally, too, the wider OPEC+ grouping has found it increasingly hard to maintain discipline as members, including Kazakhstan, Iraq, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, have increased production capacity.” LINK: https://lnkd.in/gBe9mcXM #energy #energyindustry #oil #oilindustry #oilgas #oilandgas #hydrocarbons #oilprice #opec #WTI #Brent #imports #exports #trade #refining #downstream https://lnkd.in/gTH6Wip2

“This month, ERCOT released its report on Capacity, Demand and Reserves for 2025 to 2029. According to a news release at the time, the report aims to give a ‘snapshot’ of what resources will be available and the potential demand on the grid over the next five years. (. . .) “[The University of Texas at Austin research scientist Joshua Rhodes, PhD] described it by saying, ‘Basically, everybody who’s thinking about, or roughly thinking about, connecting in a certain area — they would go to utility, and they would talk about what it looks like to get a certain amount of power at a certain location.’ “He went on to say, ‘Before, we wouldn’t really count those loads until you know they had gotten further in the process, put some skin in the game, put some money down. But now we’re kind of counting everybody, and in this new world — in this race of AI — it’s a lot of people who might want to get power, and it’s driving up the numbers much faster than they have in the past.’ “While Rhodes acknowledged that calculating the numbers this way can help the state be more proactive in building out infrastructure, he said the change makes it hard for policy makers and researchers to ‘make heads or tails’ of what’s going on now, to make recommendations.” ● ERCOT Report on Capacity, Demand and Reserves for 2025 to 2029 (Revised), 2/13/25: LINK: https://lnkd.in/g7W7maYm ● Related: ERCOT Permian Basin Reliability Plan Study, 6/28/24: LINK: https://lnkd.in/guRqT32s #energy #energyindustry #energypolicy #electricgrid #powergrid #electricity #easements #transmissionlines #utilities #battery #batterystorage #BESS #ercot ERCOT #eminentdomain https://lnkd.in/gt3GVTfG

"Vital Energy reported continued success delineating deep targets in the Wolfcamp C and D and Barnett benches. The company completed three Barnett tests: ● [O]ne each in Crane, Glasscock and Upton counties with average lateral lengths of 14,500 feet and payout at $55 oil in one year. ● It also drilled several wells testing the Wolfcamp C and D in Glasscock and Reagan counties. ● Average laterals in the Wolfcamp C were 16,000 feet and average laterals in the Wolfcamp D that pay out at $45 oil in one year. Vital told analysts it made over 150,000 gross barrels of oil equivalent per 10,000 feet of lateral in the first six months of production. (. . .) "[SM Energy Company] is also testing the Dean formation in the northern Midland Basin, drilling in its Klondike area in southern Dawson County. SM Energy reported during its third quarter 2024 earnings call that the first two Klondike wells averaged 918 barrels of oil equivalent per day with an average lateral length of 11,500 feet."
