At MacLellan Bagpipes, craftsmanship isn’t just about precision — it’s about purpose. Every set of pipes that leaves our workshop is more than an instrument. It’s a living, breathing extension of tradition, built not to sit on a shelf, but to be played. Read more through the link below! https://lnkd.in/eSkyHc9K

Ever heard jazz on the bagpipes? Meet Rufus Harley — the trailblazing musician who dared to dream differently. As the first-ever jazz bagpipe player, Rufus fused the soul of jazz with the sound of the Great Highland bagpipe, creating a musical voice that was entirely his own. From playing with John Coltrane to appearing on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, his story is as bold as his sound. At MacLellan Bagpipes, we’re all about honoring tradition and celebrating those who push boundaries. Rufus Harley did both — and made history. With #TartanDay being tomorrow -- we thought it appropriate to discuss Roddy and the business tartan. Roderick MacLellan, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, was born in Scotland and emigrated to the USA in 1980. He started making bagpipes in 1991 as a hobby and eventually founded MacLellan Bagpipes in 1995. His instruments are one of a kind and are sought by expert players throughout the world. This tartan was created by and named after Mr. MacLellan’s daughters 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗸𝘆𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗞𝗼𝘁𝗮 who have become involved in the business in recent years. A simple, bold design with elegant colours was chosen to reflect the sophisticated approach to style that has been established at MacLellan Bagpipes and has propelled them to the forefront of modern bagpipe artistry. The TK MacLellan & Co. tartan is officially registered with the The Scottish Register of Tartans.
