    Chief Executive Officer

This week we brought all of Luminate together for our second ever company offsite, Lumination. Over half of the attendees were not with us last time in 2022, either through the expansion of our Engineering (and other) teams or the two acquisitions we've made since then, Quansic and Variety VIP+. The event was a invaluable reminder of the power of in person connection and re-energized me for building the next chapters of this business with this incredible team. Thank you to everyone who travelled from all over the US and France to join us in LA and to our phenomenal outside speakers and contributors, Dolores Tersigni, Carolyn Bisson, Stoltz Jeff, Hernan Lopez and Michael Nash.

  • In what can best be described as a lackluster Super Bowl from a football perspective, most chatter coming out of the big game centered around Kendrick Lamar’s historic halftime performance. Praised by many as a masterful artistic achievement, it also served as a decisive and emphatic exclamation point to a long-running rap beef. And when it comes to star power, Lamar's influence is undeniable — according to Luminate Insights, his fans are 32% more likely to tune into a TV show if he’s performing, proving that they will show up regardless of the stage. This week's Streaming Watch 🎬 breaks down key insights from our 2024 Year-End Film & TV Report, revealing a shift in streaming original films. While these titles saw massive viewership during the pandemic, total engagement has since dropped by a third. As Netflix, Apple TV+, and others scale back original film spending, studios are doubling down on theatrical releases—challenging the notion that streaming is the future of all film distribution. So, are original films retreating from streamers? Read more of Keelan Brown's and Julie Sesnovich's analysis here: https://lnkd.in/gtwQtYMr

  • This #BlackHistoryMonth, Luminate celebrates the theme “African Americans and Labor” by spotlighting the remarkable contributions of Black talent in arts and entertainment. In music, we can see a collective accomplishment of the work and effort by how R&B/Hip-Hop, a genre of predominately Black and African American artists, enjoyed the greatest share of volume for On-Demand Audio Streams in 2024, as reported in Luminate’s 2024 Year-End Music Report, with more than one in every four U.S. audio streams being from the genre. • In 2024, studios faced a critical choice: double down on legacy franchises like Marvel or invest in fresh IP with franchise potential. Disney+ provided a clear example of this crossroads. While Marvel series Echo and Agatha All Along underperformed compared to Loki and Secret Invasion, Percy Jackson and the Olympians—a long-awaited, faithful adaptation—outshined them. The lesson? Sometimes, breathing new life into underutilized IP can pay off big. Read more of Keelan Brown's and Jimmy Doyle's analysis here: https://lnkd.in/g7xr8xxi
