KCRHA is preparing an addendum to our Five-Year Plan that aligns the strategies outlined in the state homelessness plan which includes extending the plan to 2029 and adding estimates of housing and shelter needs. KCRHA staff are working with key stakeholders to draft the addendum through August 2025. Afterwards we will have several opportunities for the public to provide feedback. If you’d like to learn more or get involved in the addendum process, check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/gi6TCpRe

Too often for people experiencing homelessness, accessing healthcare is filled with significant challenges. But next month, DESC (Downtown Emergency Service Center) is opening a low-barrier, comprehensive healthcare clinic that makes it possible for our vulnerable neighbors to receive several different services under one roof. Read on for more information on the person-centered care at the heart of this clinic, and DESC as a whole.
The DESC Downtown Behavioral Health Clinic opens August 28! DESC is excited to expand on this offering located on 3rd Avenue in downtown Seattle. Originally at 216 James St., the Downtown Clinic will now be located at 515 3rd Ave: one of our oldest former shelters and now home to the Morrison, a permanent housing site with nearly 200 tenants. This will be a welcoming, low-barrier space where DESC clients can access: ➡️ Mental health treatment ➡️ Primary medical and nursing care ➡️ Peer-led support ➡️ Connection to housing, benefits, and employment ➡️ Street outreach and engagement ➡️ Showers, snacks, and laundry for people receiving care The Downtown Clinic will also house the Opioid Recovery & Care Access (ORCA) Center. KCRHA is looking to pre-approve agencies that have an interest in receiving severe weather funding. These agencies would provide secure and dignified temporary emergency shelters, as well as essential supplies for unhoused individuals seeking refuge from adverse weather conditions like snow, extreme heat and cold, and other severe weather events. The Request For Qualifications (RFQ) is now open and the deadline for submissions is August 11. For more information on the RFQ (including timelines and a recorded Q+A), click the link below: https://lnkd.in/gj6A22yf

Unhoused community members face more hurdles to accessing healthcare. In 2021, an initiative called Health Through Housing began in King County to both house and provide supportive services for people experiencing homelessness with a disability or chronic illness. The idea was that by removing barriers to medical assistance in tandem with providing permanent supportive or emergency housing, more folks would be housed longer. The most recent study found that 95% of people remained housed over the course of the year, as compared to the 57% who remain housed without supportive services. Read more on how Health Through Housing works and the programs that make it happen in the Urbanist’s article below. https://lnkd.in/djayPQuJ
