“𝗜𝗳 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵, 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗼?” Eliane is seven and a half, and her question—equal parts wonder and skepticism—perfectly captured the spirit of the 𝗢𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘀 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹: 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳. 𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦. She had just watched a video of the ISTSat rocket launch, introduced by Diogo Diniz, a Computer Science undergrad and first-time outreach volunteer at Instituto Superior Técnico's booth, where INESC-ID was also present. The first Portuguese university-built satellite—developed at NanoSat Lab – was one of the many attractions that captured children’s (and grownups’) attention. From rockets to robot dogs, electric vehicles to AI mushrooms, INESC-ID was there in full force—sharing demos, games, quizzes, and joining in conversations about the future of 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, laignty, the topic of the festival. 🚗 At the same booth, the EV4EU project was challenging visitors to think about the future of mobility and energy transition. With a quiz designed by INESC-ID researcher Marcelo Braço Forte, over 100 participants tested their knowledge of electric vehicles, competing for the chance to win a miniature electric car 🤖 Under the Técnico Oeiras Campus Open Day, GAIPS Lab brought artificial intelligence to life at the festival with fun, interactive demos. ELMO the Robot in The Mushroom Game raised questions about AI and decision-making, while the GO2 robot dog amazed visitors and rose questions about robotics and autonomy. With curiosity running high, the GAIPS team made complex tech feel playful and approachable. 🌍 Researchers like Helena Moniz, Isabel Trancoso, Luisa Coheur, and Arlindo Oliveira brought deep reflections to the festival’s roundtables—highlighting everything from cultural bias in AI to the strategic importance of European technological autonomy. 📚 And through the Engenharia para Todos initiative, INESC-ID helped power the 2nd Meeting of Oeiras Science Clubs—celebrating the collaboration between teachers, researchers, and students. At the end of the day, it's not just about having the answers. It's about 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸. And in that, Eliane—and every student we met—passed with flying colors. 🎈 👉For more details on this inspiring day: https://lnkd.in/d8rEK5iy Images | © 2025 INESC-ID #INESCID #ScienceFestival #ArtificialIntelligence #Outreach #EngenhariaParaTodos #OeirasValley #SpaceTech #AIethics
