The Indianola City Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year City property tax levy as follows: Meeting Date: March 24, 2025 Meeting Time: 6:00 p.m. Meeting Location: City Hall Council Chambers, 110 N 1st St., Indianola, IA 50125 At the public hearing, any resident or taxpayer may present objections to, or arguments in favor of, the proposed tax levy. After the hearing of the proposed tax levy, the City Council will publish notice and hold a hearing on the proposed city budget.

The Indianola City Council, during its regular meeting last night, Tuesday, Feb. 18, voted unanimously to appoint At-Large Council Member Steve Richardson to serve as mayor. The appointment follows former Indianola Mayor Stephanie Erickson’s decision to step down in January and serve solely in the role of Warren County Supervisor after being elected last November to represent District 4. Richardson will complete the current mayoral term through Wednesday, Dec. 31. Be part of the design process for Illuminate Indianola! Join artist Lori Hepner and the Indianola Public Arts Commission for hands-on art making workshops where everyone is invited to Draw with Light! Using programmable LED light devices, including wearable LEDs and a six-foot-tall light stick, create silhouette portraits for use in the mural that Hepner will make to enhance the alleyway between 111 and 115 N Buxton Street. The workshops are geared to include people of all ages and abilities. Remember in August when we announced that the Indianola Fire Department received a $20,000 Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows toward the purchase of a personal protective equipment (PPE) turnout gear dryer? IT'S HERE! This new dryer – the Continental ExpressDry Turnout Gear Dryer – addresses a critical issue: The time-consuming process of drying turnout gear after washing. Firefighters' gear must be washed after every fire to remove carcinogenic chemicals produced by burning fuels. These chemicals can cause cancer – the second leading cause of death among firefighters today, according to the Firefighter Cancer Alliance. “Enhancing service delivery is an ongoing effort, and this new equipment is a vital component in that process,” said Indianola Fire Chief Aaron Hurt. “As firefighters, we face unpredictable and hazardous situations every day, and having the right tools is crucial to our safety and effectiveness."
