Volunteers have diverse reasons for staying involved with IEEE. What’s yours? 🤔 We asked NARESH E., and here’s what he shared. As a Lead Data Engineer at Macy's, based in Atlanta, GA, Naresh engages with industry experts, mentors aspiring engineers, and contributes to advancing cutting-edge research in AI, big data, and cloud computing through IEEE. Volunteering with IEEE allows him to give back to the community while staying at the forefront of emerging technologies. 🌟 Celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth 🌟 We honor the incredible achievements of Sonya Dillard, IEEE Region 3 Director-Elect. Sonya has been a trailblazer in the field of STEM, breaking barriers and setting new standards of excellence. Sonya has spent the better part of 30 years as a volunteer mentor, pouring into students to fuel the pipeline of future engineers. She gives engineering talks at schools, serves as the Coordinator for the Alabama Regional Future City Competition, works on science projects, and judges STEM-related projects. This passion for youth came from her growing up without many mentors who looked like her(as a person of color) in the field of engineering. She says, "I wanted students of all ages and diverse backgrounds to realize that engineering can be cool and fun! Engineers Change the WORLD! I have been an ambassador for engineering and encourage others to do the same." An Inspiring Quote from Sonya: “Surround yourself with positive people who encourage you to stretch beyond your current limits. Step outside your comfort zone and push yourself to be 1% better each day. The positive people in your close circle will help you elevate to the next level. Always be sure help others along your journey, because there’s more than enough room for greatness.
