We are so grateful for the support of both King's College, Cambridge and St John's College, Cambridge and their commitment to FutureIN Property & Construction. If every landowner, developer and building contractor made a commitment to employ just one FutureIN #apprentice, this would create a lasting impact across our communities, whilst helping to address the well-documented skills shortages across the #construction industry. Find out more on the FutureIN website: https://lnkd.in/e9ffUgtG
Young people dealing with homelessness issues are being offered the chance to build a brighter future through an initiative that has secured the backing of two Cambridge University colleges for the first time. King's College, Cambridge and St John’s College are backing the FutureIN Property & Construction initiative which helps tackle youth homelessness through paid apprenticeships in the construction sector. Recognising the increasing challenges of hidden homelessness among young people in Cambridge, King’s and St John’s have pledged to appoint FutureIN apprentices or interns – from vulnerable backgrounds, and who may be at risk of homelessness – on their major building projects by mandating their involvement with the main contractors and subcontractors working for them. Polly Ingham (MBA, CMgr FCMI), Domus Bursar at King’s College said: “We recognise the value of learning in many forms and are delighted to partner with FutureIN on this initiative. Apprenticeships and internships like these have the potential to make a meaningful impact on young people and their futures.” Alison Cox, Domestic Bursar, St John’s College added: “We are pleased to be working with FutureIN. As a construction client, we recognise our ability to drive positive change, improving the lives of young people and developing a talented workforce through apprenticeships.” Bob Ensch, Programme Lead, FutureIN said: “The commitment from King’s and St John’s Colleges is a game-changer. Their support not only helps young people gain life-changing employment opportunities but also sends a strong message to the property and construction industry that addressing youth homelessness is a shared responsibility. We hope this will inspire other colleges, developers, and investors to get involved.” The Howard Group has been on board with FutureIN from the very beginning and CEO Nicholas Bewes has been involved since its inception, taking a hands-on role in encouraging other property companies to support its objectives. He said: “This announcement represents a significant milestone for FutureIN. It demonstrates the role that construction clients, landowners and employers can play in delivering real social impact, while also helping to solve the industry’s ongoing skills shortage. Our vision is that every major construction project in Greater Cambridge commits to employing FutureIN apprentices – King’s and St John’s are setting a fantastic example.” Full article – https://lnkd.in/ezTUmx6n

Some more photographs and a few words from our CEO Nicholas Bewes on this year's #LandAidSleepOut: "A huge well done to the Howard Group team for stepping up and braving the cold at the LandAid SleepOut 2025 last week in support of ending youth homelessness. "Their commitment to this important cause was truly inspiring. So far, they have raised an incredible £4,986 (including Gift Aid) - just a few pounds away from doubling our team fundraising target. "While it may not have been the most comfortable night with -2 degree temperatures at times, it was a rewarding and thought-provoking experience for all of us involved." There's still time to donate: https://ow.ly/oIe050V9b0r The national total stands at an amazing £581,440 this morning. We must add thanks to Cantab Catering for the food and refreshments and Cambridge University Rugby Club for allowing us to use their ground #EndYouthHomelessness #Cambridge

Here are the members of the Howard Group team before they settled down for a night sleeping outside at the 2025 LandAid #SleepOut in #Cambridge. They would have woken up, if they slept at all, to a frost this morning. Across the country more than 1,000 people braved the zero degree temperatures last night to raise funds to help #EndYouthHomelessness. Organisers #LandAid said: "Last night, thousands slept out so young people won’t have to. Across the UK, our incredible supporters gave up their beds to support our mission to put an end to youth homelessness. The #LandAidSleepOut isn't just a challenge - it was a powerful act of solidarity. We united the property sector to make a real impact." So far more than £500k has been raised towards the national target of £1M with donations still coming in. If you would like to make a donation, the link is below. Thank you. The money raised will help support many young people across the UK who have nowhere to call home. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ehnupExk

Dear Friends, On Thursday 27th February, a team of us from Howard Group will be joining many others across the UK in sleeping out for one night in the 2025 LandAid SleepOut. The purpose is to raise funds to support projects and initiatives that help to end youth homelessness. We will be settling down for what we think will probably be a pretty cold night’s sleep at Cambridge University’s Grange Road rugby ground. CURUFC has kindly agreed once again to host this event. This year, LandAid is expecting up to 2,000 people joining the event at eight UK locations. The goal is to raise £1 million. Last year over £750k was raised for good causes, and this year we want to exceed that level. Youth homelessness continues to be a major issue for our society. The cost-of-living crisis and cost of rental has created unprecedented challenges for many young people across the nation. In 2022/2023, a staggering 136,000 young people approached their local councils for support with homelessness. That is the equivalent of one every 4 minutes. LandAid works across the property industry amongst many charities who are at the frontline in helping to alleviate youth homelessness. Might you be willing to sponsor the Howard Group team as we brave the elements on 27th February? For us it is just one night in the cold and experiencing a degree of discomfort. For many, this has sadly become a way of life. If you are willing to do so, please find a link below to the site where you can donate. https://lnkd.in/eaD2C-vG All support will be well used to help transform young lives, and I will gladly update you once the event is over and let you know how we have got on. Finally, I know only too well that there will be many competing calls on your time and your money. We all get approached on behalf of many great causes. Please therefore do not feel any obligation – but all support would be gratefully received and well used! With grateful thanks for any support. Nicholas #LandAidSleepOut #EndYouthHomelessness #PropertyIndustry
