Your neighborhood cafe can brew a mean cuppa joe...and a new local business? ☕💰 According to a recent study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, coffee shops act as “third spaces” where people can connect, share ideas, and enhance community life beyond home and work. In addition to creating these invaluable social environments, the "Starbucks Effect" signals to entrepreneurs that a neighborhood is on the rise, sparking further growth and innovation. But here’s the twist: not all coffee shops create this impact. The study found that Caribou Coffee (which encourages lingering) has similar effects, while Dunkin' Donuts (more of a grab-and-go spot) doesn’t quite yield the same impact. Restaurants--and not bars--can result in similar outcomes, emphasizing the power of connection in shared spaces (and maybe over a shared meal). The takeaway? Investing in places where people can gather and exchange ideas can benefit communities while also boosting the local economy. Did you know that more than 47 million people in the U.S. face food insecurity? 🍽️ Systemic barriers like poverty, unemployment, and inequality continue to perpetuate this issue. Thankfully, organizations like Feeding America are taking action and spreading awareness. 🏘️ Hunger exists in every community—but it’s worse in rural areas and the South. 📈 People of color face higher rates of food insecurity due to systemic inequities. 🍎 50+ million people turned to food assistance in 2023 alone. Need food assistance or want to help? 🔎 Visit FeedingAmerica.org to find local food banks. ❤️ Support hunger relief efforts by donating or volunteering. Together, we can create a hunger-free future.
